Uuc of the principal ohjects of thee Cluhs is to see that evcrv voter is sunplied with a reliable Democratic paper, ths.t ha aiay real anl judc for himself as to the piiiiticat mmnmi of tho Jay. This is a tnovc in the rijiht direction, and one which the Democracy have heretofore been altogether too inliflerent about. Had the Democratic parry made the samo exertion in extendins the circulation of their party organs for the pasl i.tht years that has o protuinntly characleriied the opposition, the tide of abolition fkaiticism that has swept over the country like -cirooo, leaviti;; death atid desolatwn in Sti ' waVe might have been- materially checked, llul better late than never, and we bow urge upon our friend in ach locality j throughout Ui oounry, to ec that organiza-j lion of the kind arc speedily organized, oprnt to all, and that every totcr in tho District iS upplieJ vittt A Liemocrathi paper it ho is j too ptor to paj fr it himself, let some one that is able pay for him the best plau is to ric pcneral Club ' fund for this pur, xse. B Monday last was evidently the coldest day yet experienced thi3 winter, and Monday niht was decidelj- chilly. . Those having the good fortune to be permitted to sleep in comfortable houses and in warm beds complained of the cold. How do they think the soldier, in the field, frequently without tents, and nothing but a blanket to f rotect him "endured it '? ' - Incendiary mm. We learn that one of the School Houses in Hendricks Township, in the .-eetion known as the Parker neighborhood, was burned down on Saturday night week. That it was the work of incendiaryiiu is evident, and the particulars are about fius, as near as we can learn: On the night in question there was a meeting of the Democrats of the neighborhood iu the School House, ami while the meeting was irt progress four or fire abolitionists came in, giving, as an excuse for their intrusion, that they thought there was a singing school there that night. The Democrats finished their business and left, leaving tha abolitionists in possession of the building, which was soon afcer discovered in flames. This fact, together with the assertion of a leading aboli tionists, dubbed Esquire, made some time last fall to the effect, that, if a eertain teacher, a Democrat, was employed ho would burn the School House, makes out a pretty strong case, especially as the objectionable teaeher was employed and had just completed his Winter Term, but as the affair will be brou't before a judicial tribunal we refrain from further comments for the present. Exci isivKt.v Feiisoxal. There was antther shameless effort made at the meeting of the .Soldiers Aid Society on Saturda3 night to introduce the disturbing element of political discussion. The prime mover was Tom. M'Farland, whoindul.1 in fl'sj. nted incolioi-aiit liftrrunsHC, denouncing men ts traitors and secession sympathisers. The patrio ij professions of this man arc a lie h's object is to impair the efficiency and evident ly destroy the organization, and then attempt to fasten the responsibilty upon Democrats li ha no reganl for the sufferings of the oldter or their amilics his hopeis to create a commotion in Ricial and political circles, probably incite men to deeds of violence, in j the midst of which he may succeed in foist ing himself into office. This is his object, and just bo long as he is permitted to distract the harmony of the Society by his drunken harrangues, just s Ion will it be crippled and impaired. So far as his remarks applied toourself, they arc a matter of sur rcmc in. difference, and we will only here sa- that the imputations attempted to be cast on us an 1 our paper arc false and meau and their author a lieing scoundrel We prefer the eensurc and vituperation of such creatures it is only their praise and endorsement that is dangerous. - Tom. was followed by the Honorable Secretary, E. G. Mayhcw, in his usual ''elo qucnt and impressive manner." We believe the chief point of his charge against us was that we had not published the proceedings as furnished had omittei the word "Union." The clatter about tho term Union" bj a certain class of peseudo patriots reminds us of the comparison betw een an empty headed Vped and an empty wagon, the less they have in them th more mi!e tin y make. Just bo with these odice seeking patriots, the less love they have for the old "Uuion the more rack. et they make . about it.
