The Democracy have wisely retrained f'rotn holding any politioal meetings in the county, deeming that tho people possessed sufficient intelligence tojudge lor themselves between the contending parties and candidates. It tfs also a pretty well established lat thatthe jrreat mass of the people of Shelby e unlv, excepting a few followers ol Wendell Phillips, are for the Union as it was and the Ci -stitution as it is, and stand in iued of no instructions as to their duty. Sanitary Supplies. The recent battles have filled the Hospitals with wounded soldiers, and as the war has now evidently commenced in earnest, a large increase may be expected. The new levies being called into the field will also add many to the list, more it is feared, than the Government will be able to suitably provid for unless every person in the country shall charge themselves with the duty of contributing their might The articles most needed is bedding of all kinds, shirts (cotton or linen), flannel under shirts, drawers, knit woolen sock, handkerchiefs, mittons, &c. Surgeons' supplies. Comprtssfs or pieces of old soft linen and cotton, without seemsselvedges, or starch ; wash the pieces thoroughly, iron them, and roll them into smooth bundles. Casxfs r f Mvslin 20 inches longby S inches wide, for cushions for wounded limbs. Ediiw.es. Dried Apples, Dried Peaches, Dried 11 urns, Dried Berries, in bags or barre's. Fruit, Jellies, Tomatoes. Over every vessel eontaing Jelly, strew white sugar to the depth of half an inch, and paste stout paper (not brandied) over the mouth. Tea. Rice, Corn Starch, Farina, Sago. Oat Meal, Tapioca, Arrow Boot. Cocoa, Pearl Barley, Yeast Cakes, Yeast Powders. These articles, when ready, should be sent to the County Sanitary Committee, who will see that they are promptly forwarded. Shelby Crninty can do much in alleviating the sufferings of our sick and wounded soldiers. 53, Wool is now higher than it has been for forty-four years. This is owing to the large demand for army goods, and to the ad vaneed price of cotton. It will not soon fall so low as it has been of late years; and we shall be surprised if the flocks upon our hills are not greatly increased. bciA- i ne accounts or me inwian massacres in Minnesota are shocking.
