Speedwayites And Westsiders Receive Little Red Door Pins
Groups and individuals who donated a combined total at 65,000 hours of volunteer wort to toe Little Red Door during 1971 were honored on Wednesday afternoon, June 1 t at toe organizitioa’s annual Volunteer Award and Recognition Day. The event was held in toe fifth floor auditorium of toe Indiana National Bank Tower. Making a correction on a special “senior edition” of toe Ben Davis school newspaper, the Spotlight, Lou Ann Byfield, senior, will soon be ending her involvement of school pubvia graduation. Serving as both feature editor on toe newspaper and advertising layuvt riitor on toe yearbook, Miss Byfield will be at toe University of Evansville where she has been granted a scholarship.

The State Scholarship Commission has awarded scholarships to: Pam Anderson, Esther Barker, Susan Bourke, Kent Ccfoid, Becky Cox, Susan Darrah, Kathy Harris, Mark Hittie, Larry Hofmockel, Lora Horton, Kathy Karst, Dan Laskowski, Betty Lindley, Tim Maloney, Debby Meyer, Marcia Pierce, Peggy Pierce, Katherine Ramsey, Jere Rosebrock, Bill Ruckman, Debbie Scott, Mike Shinn, Craig Smith, Don Strouse, Jeff Thompson, Tom Tubbs, Linda Vehling, and Linda Ward. Achievement were awarded to Susan Darrah from the University of Evansville; Dan Laskowski from Rose-Hulman; Linda Vehling and Linda Ward from Twiiana State University; and Betty Lindley, Lora Horton, Rhonda McCormick, Bob Hawkins, Patti Smith, Gail Bell, Larry Hofinockel, and Peggy Pierce from Purdue. Pam Anderson was named Outstanding Student in Speech Arts; Brian Doak and Pam Davies were named Best Actor and Best Actress, respectively; and State Speech Finalists were Pam Anderson and Ann Bastianelli. Special awards presented at the Modern-aires and Boys’ Glee Chib Honor Night were as follows: Bill Ruckman was named Outstanding senior member of Boys’ Glee Chib; Pam Davies was presented with the Director’s Award; Becky Cos and Betty Lindley received Choral Awards. Patti Smith received the Choral Award in Sparkle-aires and the Director’s Awards went to Robbie Barnes and Tom Hanna. Speedway closed its regular baseball season by losing to Zionsville 2-1. In sectional play Speedway defeated Southport 6-4 and lost to Pike 2-0. hi freshman baseball Speedway lost to Decatur Central 6-4 and finished their season with five wins and three losses. In golf Speedway placedfourth in the Mid-State Conference meet and ninth in the Marion County Meet. Speedway’s GAA golf team placed seventh in the state meet held last week. Debbie Lovick was awarded “Closest to the Pin Award.”

The former Linda Strout, Mrs. Haley is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Warren Strout, 5419 Maplewood Drive, Speedway. She received a Bachelor or Arts in Music. Christin Alice Fulton, daugiu ter of Mr. and Mrs. R.J. Fulton, 2133 N. Fisher, Speedway, received her B.A. degree in history during commencement exercises held at DePauw University on May 21. She is a graduate of Speedway High School. The fifth and final class of Purdue University nursing graduates in Indianapolis received their pins at ceremonies held on May 14. and their degrees on May 21. Speedway area students included Connie Ziegler Ray and Beverly Stalter. Bob M. Hawkins, 2643 Vinewood Drive, Speedway, was one of 77 high school seniors who have won scholarships of SSOO each. He has been admitted as a freshman in Purdue University’s School of Engineering next fall.

A Modernaire, Debbie has received her senior pin and varsity letter in music. She served as a projectionist and worked at Beskin-Robbins. Debbie, a member of the Church of the Nazarene, hopes to visit the Holy Lands withher husband and parents soon. “I make all my clothes, swim, and ski,” she said.
