“Every artist paints with a purpose,” Sandy Badger said. “The biggest challenge is to get a genuine idea for what the person wants. That’s what makes for a tot of frustrated artists!” The frustrations of art—and the ecstasies—are ahead, for she will study graphic art at the University of Cincinnati. “tt Pm good enough, I’d like to be a graphic engineer. "Pm being commissioned by students now,” she said, adding that she had just finished painting a boy’s guitar case.

sampling another art medium, sculpture, Sandy attended the Ball State University art workshop on a scholarship. A member of the Art Chib, she decorated one of Kresge’s windows at Halloween. Besides working on her own individual projects, Sandy plans to be an art counselor at Girl Scout camp this summer. She has been a Scout for 11 years. Expressing herself also in music, Sandy admits that she values her art more. Sandy, one of Speedway’s two drum majors, will lead two more parades this year.
A member of the stage, concert, pep, and varsity bends and pit orchestra, she has played the saxophone since she was 8. Debbie Knoop’s nimble fingers earned her a 50 words per minute typing certificate. And, as she plans to become a secretary after high school, she’ll irna n nanoy. As a member of the "Let ft Be” yearbook staff, Debbie works on the senior activities list and index. Like fitter, like son! Jim Hiser expects to be an electrician like his fitter. The electronics course he took at the high school was just a beginning. Jim would use to study at Mallory Technical School. A veteran of two summers* work at the 500 track, Jim now works at Wassons. His time off is spent hunting, fishing, or working on his car. Jim played 9th grade football and track and reserve football.
Paul Ashley Final Rites Paul D. Ashley, 52, 1735 Ellen Drive, died in Community Hospital on March 6th. Services were held in the Speedway Cookie Funeral Home on Friday, March 10th. Burial was in Floral Park Cemetery. Mr. Ashley was a member of the 7th Day Adventist Church, Speedway Masonic Lodge and the Elks Lodge, Lebanon, Indiana. Survivors include his wife, May Ashley; daughter, Mrs. Sharon Bondurant and son, Paul D. Ashley, Westminister, California.

Speedway was test to a Junior High Invitational Wrestling Meet recently. Franklin Central {faced first, Speedway second, Brownsburg third, and Danville fourth. Speedway team members who were champions in their weight divisions were: Terry Love, Craig Oslos, Jim Mendenhall, Tom Hott, Brian Cook, Stanley McTarsney, and Rusty Long.

Second place winners were Chuck West, Mike Godby, and Date Deem. Third place was awarded to John Capoils and Chester Robertson; and fourth place awarded to Jett Hart, Jeff Crow, and Mike Milatovich. Earlier Speedway tost a wrestling meet to Decatur by a score of3B-29. The GAA swimming team won a meet with Marion 80-25.
