Junior High Basketballers Undefeated
Speedway Junior High School’s eighth grade basketball team is undefeated after six games of the new season. They have defeated Brownsburg, 5146; Decatur Central, 55-43; Zionsville B team, 51-10; Zionsville A team 60-23; Lincoln Junior High of Pike Township, 44-29; Craig of Lawrence Township, 29-28, in a thriller; and Franklin Township, 51-48. Bott seventh and eighth grade teams travel tonight to Whiteland for competition there. Members of the eighth grade team are Scott Foster, Mark Chapman, John Yeftich, Jeff Rossetter, Dan Masariu, Phil Daumen, Jeff Crow, Dave Wilson, Brad Miley, Tim Casady, Dan Wagner, Mike Linville, Bruce MXain, Tom Dynn, Mike Milatovich, Jim Shaw, Mark Furnish and Bob Ellis. Jeff McMahan and Wayne Saxton are student managers; John Butterworth is coach. Speedway’s seventh grade net men defeated Craig 37-28 on Dec. 7, and Franklin Township 35-28 on Dec. 9.

Teams Practice For Upcoming Season
Fifth and sixtfi graders from all four Speedway elementary schools have been practicing for several weeks for the approaching season of competition within their own league. The program, which is sponsored by the schools, is under the direction of John Preheim, teacher at Allison school, and Kennett Thompson, of Wheeler school. After the first few weeks of practice, devoted to work on fundamentals, the boys taking part selected teams and the

names for the teams. Fifth grade teams are the Pacers, Globetrotters, Knicks, Sparkplugs, Hoosiers, and Bucks. The sixth graders named their teams the Bucks, Pacers, Knicks, Lakers, Boilermakers, and Bullets. One hundred fifteen boys are taking part in the program this year, 54 at sixth grade level and 61 at fifth. schools are represented, teams are purposely composed of boys from all schools, not made up into individual school teams. Competition is within the group itself, each team competing on its own grade level. The seven-game competitive season will open on Monday, Jan. 3, and end on Tuesday, Feb. 16.
