Girl Scouts Honored *For Promotion Teams

Speedway Girl Scouts were honored recently for the work of camp promotion teams, who helped their neighborhoods to a place in the top ten in camp attendance during the past summer. District H of the Hoosier Capital Girl Scout Council, of which the Speedway neighborhood is a part, ranked first in attendance of its girls at both day camps and resident camps. Ninety-nine girls attended day camp at Camp Dellwood and Hawthorne Trails, and sixteen girls were resident campers at Dellwood. Wrestlers Lose Opening Meet

Varsity wrestlers lost their first meet of the 1971-1972 season on Nov. 23, to Mooresville, by a score of 39-18. Speedway varsity individual winners were Mick Green, in the 126-pound class; Allan Shaw, 132-pound; Vic Stewart, 98 pound; Dave Bauguess, 112pound; and Russell Ridgeway, heavyweight. practice. The Sparkplugs have no wrestler in the 105-pound class, meaning an automatic forfeit in this weight class in each meet. Speedway’s reserves defeated the Mooresville reserves in the Nov. 23 meet. Winners were Kevin Bourke, Joe Preda, Bill Clark, Bill Owen, Joe Sellmer, Merco Hietberg, and Kevin Waggoner. Dave Sears scored a tie in his match. Other reserve grapplers are Jamie Dillard, Jeff Fulton, Billy Hider, Bill Jones, John Griffith, Dale Martin, Mike Walker, and Mark Riffey. Freshmen members of the team, besides Bourke, Owen, Preda, Sears, Sellmer, Thompson, and Waggoner, are Steve Bailey, Martin Bauguess, Mel Brosman, Steve Godby, Norm Heavner, Tom Hider, Larry Kay, Kenny Marsh, Gary McCormick, Jim Pike, Randy Roberts, Skip Schrulucke, and Joe Thompson.
