Weekday Religious Education Classes to be Held at the Speedway United Methodist Church. Weekday Religious Education classes will be initiated at the Speedway United Methodist Church next Tuesday and Wednesday, September 15th and 16th. Mr. Craig Klelnknlght, Chairman of the Council on Ministries, announced that the plan has been under study for 6 months and will be open to all children in the community regardless of church affiliation. The Fifth and Sixth Grade Class will be taught by the Senior Pastor, Rev. William R. Valentine, Jr., at 3:30 on Tuesdays. The class will study the stories of the Old Testament and will meet for 35 sessions throughout the school yar. The Seventh and Eighth Grade Class will include music, drama, and studies that will replace the Jr. High UMYF program formerly held on Sundays. Rev. Dennis N. McLain will teach this course on Wednesdays from 3H5 to 5:00 p.m. The Administrative Board of the church voted unanimously to underwrite the program and offer the professional staff of the church in lieu of participating in the cooperative community program since many of the members are not reached by the Speedway sessions. RayMethier, Chairman of the Administrative Board, said that be hopes the program will encourage many unchurched families to take advantage of the classes. He said that surveys indicate that weekday courses are much more available to young people because of the trend for many families to be away from their home communities on weekends. No registrations are necessary. All children in sth and 6th grades, 7th and Bth grades are invited to join in the study program which begins next week.
