Speedway Sports And i hVj Track News by F. H., Jr.

What could become a small size boom to business in many ways took place on Wednesday, July 1 in an area to the north and west of Speedway, called Eagle Creek Reservoir. This new water storage and flood control area is now open to the avid and amateur fisherman. Although the crop of fish contained is large in numbers, their size as of now is not expected to be of great size or weight for another two years. The angler should be able to catch large and small mouth bass, catfish, crappies and maybe on occasion, gold fish that probably got into the lake from the small size lake above Eagle Creek on 71st Street and old Road 52. You who prefer to boat fish have two places to launch your boats (see map in today’s paper) and the bank fishermen have a great area from which to work their lines. Do be careful to obey the Reservoir Laws - Boats 20 feet or less outboard motors 10 H.P. or less and speed limit of 5 M.P.H. No pleasure or sailing craft allowed at present. You anglers have fun and get a good catch and you folks that haven’t seen the new Eagle Creek Reservoir take a drive out that way this summer. That old familiar roar of the engines will again be heard starting July 13 as the tire companies again test tires for the 1971 race. Visitors are welcome to the track and to sit and observe the testing from Grandstand E. in the southwest turn. The noise of the Offies and Fords will be with us till late in November. Have you noticed how nice the Speedway Parks look these days and it’s great to see families out enjoying the swings and slides with the kids; also the number of families having picnics in the parks.,. Take your family out sometime soon for a few hours of fun.

For 61 years, tbe Rosner family has owned and operated the Rosner Drug Store, 1564 Main, In Speedway. This week the Flyer-Journal Is spotlighting the two current owners of the Drug Store, Paul and Dick Rosner. Joseph Rosner, grandfather of the Rosner brothers, built the store In 1909. He originally operated the store as both a grocery and drug store, with a

Fireworks Once again it is time for America to celebrate its independence. Down through history this has been done with many different types of fireworks. Because of the danger involved, however, it is now against the law in the state of Indiana to use fireworks. But one cannot help but wonder whose child will lose their hand or sight this year. Each and every year the newspapers of July sth carry stories from around the country detailing accidents resulting from the use of dangerous fireworks. Parents should wise-up and refuse to allow their children to use fire crackers, cherry bombs, roman candles, M-80’s, etc. Granted, sparklers and “snakes” don’t do much to create excitement for the older children but they are at least safe and legal. Let’s not have a story in next week’s paper about an area child or even an adult who was injured as a result of the illegal use of fireworks to celebrate the fourth of July.

Letters To Editor

Liberty Or Security

Dear Editors Give me liberty or give me security. You can*t have both, any more than you can have liberty and death at one and the same time. Liberty has only one fullblown. wall-to-wall synonym, and that is freedom. Security has several blood brothers, and death is one of them. Others are togetherness, brotherhood, tenure, status, acceptance, and equality. They all sound good, and they do have their good points. But freedom is not one of them. Look at the man in jail. He has lost his freedom, but he has security three meals a day, protections from enemies as well as friends, a place to sleep, clothes with stripes thrown in. He has no fears, no risks, no expenses. He is safe. There comes a day when he is thrust back out into the world where once again he has the
