Located at 6038 W. 25th Street, the community of self supporting, active old folks Is physical evidence that old age and retirement need not be taken lying down. The Independent Living Club, the name given the community, was organized In 1963 by Bob Roland, who Is currently owner and manager of the three building complex. Most residents are In their sixties and seventies, with one mobile gentleman there 91 years old.

Speedway Park Activities

Webb Hartman, manager of the new Red Win; Shoe Store, which opened several weeks ago in the ‘SOP Shopping Center, has been in the shoe business for SO years.

Tenants live In ranch style units with colonial trim. Each apartment has electric heat and is folly air-conditioned. Every apartment has Its own private bath. Both Indoor and outdoor recreational activities are provided and a professional guidance counselor Is available at all times. For those who wish, up to three meals a day are provided and served In the club dining room. For those who still have cars, parking abilities are provided and residents are free to come and go as they please. Robert A. O’Neal, Jr. was promoted from assistant cashier to assistant vice president of Indiana National Bank at the Board of Directors* mooting June 10. O’Neal, who Joined the Bank in 1903, works in the Governmental and Corporate Services division. Speedway Lions Plan 'Tom Gilbert Nighs Aug. 12th

The Speedway Lions Club has announced plans to sponsor a “Tom Gilbert Night* in honor of Speedway’s All-Star Basketball player and football great Tom Gilbert. The program is scheduled for August 12th, 1970 and will be held at Speedway High School. The program will Involve a dinner and guest speaker as well as some other “little things’’ according to Glen Collins of the Speedway Lions Club. one or tne “little things’’ mentioned by Collins was a segment of the program In “This Is Your Life’’ format which traces Gilbert’s athletic career buck from birth to the end of this past school year, with the next chapter to be written as Gilbert leaves for Purdue University in September. Several presentations are also scheduled to be made, according to Collins, and the choice of guest speaker has not yet been decided. Collins reported that tickets are expected to go on sale on Friday, July 3rd, and anyone wishing tickets or further information should contact Collins.
