SCHOOL NEWS (Continued from Page 1) Letters of Commendation honoring them for their high prformance on the 1969 National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test have been awarded to four Speedway High School seniors. Those named commended students are Gary Garber, Bruce Roberts, Georgia Simpson, and John Van Buskirk. The following Speedway High School students were elected class officers for the 1969 - 70 school year. Mark Wraight was elected president of the senior class; Carol Mathis, vice-president; Beth Masariu, secretary; and Neil Oslos, treasurer. In junior class elections, Mike Dunn was elected president; Holly Young, vice-president; Bonnie Dillon, secretary; and Steve Wilson, treasurer. The sophomores elected Jerry Love, president; Jan Gullett, vicepresident; Phyllis Draper, secretary; and Don Watsor treasurer. Freshman Tony Popcheff was elected president of his class; Patty Glessner, vice-president; Kathy Tomlinson, secretary; and Mark Leonard, treasurer. Speedway won a Mid-State Conference game with Greenwood last Friday night by a 21-15 score. Earlier in the week Speedway’s reserves defeated Beech Grove 6-0 and the freshman Sparkplugs won from Brownsburg 200. Results of tennis matches played during the past week include: Speedway 6, Brownsburg 1; Brebeuf varsity 4, Speedway 3; Speedway reserves 6, Brebeuf 3; Speedway varsity 5, Ben Davis 2. Speedway placed sixth in their division at the Southport Meet last Saturday. Speedway junior high football teams won their contests last week; Speedway eighth grade defeated Brownsburg 48-14, and the seventh grade team won over Whiteland 52-0.
