Speedway Weekday Religious Education Seeking Teachers Each teacher selected and hired for our Weekday Religious Education staff should be educationally on a par with public school teachers, and, in addition, have credits in Bible and Religious Education. We feel it essential that each teacher also be capable particularly in working with the age group of fifth grade boys and girls (this is the grade level with whom we are initiating our W. R.E. Program.) The job description includes: 30 one-hour sessions, each to be conducted in a church near to the school in which the children are enrolled. This one-hour session will occur on Wednesday afternoon from about 3:00 to about 4:00 p.m., during the school year when school is in session (no W. R.E. classes will be conducted during school holiday time). All the W.R.E. classes will be held in cooperative churches nearest each elementary school. The W.R.E. program furnishes pupils’ texts, texts for teachers, and Bibles. The W.R.E. Board of Directors Personnel Committee reserves the right to select or reject .any applicant. Indianapolis Hiking Club On August 10, the Indianapolis Hiking Club will meet at 2:30 p.m. in the picnic area parking lot at Northeastway Park for an easy hike. Cars will leave the east side of the State House at 1:30 p.m.
Butler Basketball Twenty-six games them in Hinkle Fieldhouse have been carded for the 1969-70 Butler University basketball team by Athletic Director Paul D. (Tony) Hinkle. The slate includes three new opponents sity, Pepperdine College of Los Angeles, and Oral Roberts University of Tulsa, Okla. Besides that trio, others making Fieldhouse appearances will be Ohio State, Michigan State, Toledo, Notre Dame, Murray State, Indiana State, Ball State, Wabash and Indiana Collegiate Conference rivals DePauw, Evansville, St. Joseph’s and Valparaiso. The Bulldogs launch their campaign at Illinois, Dec. 2, and face 10 other road tests during the campaign. Hinkle also announced that season tickets will go on sale in October. The price remains the same will be $1.50 for adults and SI.OO for school-age younsters.
The veteran mentor will have 14 players, including five lettermen from the 1968-69 campaign, along with some promising sophomores, moving up from the highest scoring freshman team in Butler history. Among them will be 1968 “Mr. Basketball” Billy Shepherd of Carmel.
