LOCAL WOMAN ■(Continued from Page 1) Salts, now 84 years old, is still living in West Lebanon. Indiana, 4 and will also be honored at the Forts celebration at 1 p.m. in front of post headquarters, a stone’s throw from where Mrs. Taylor was born. * Mrs. Taylor’s birth was among the first to be recorded in Marion County, as 1907 was the first year official records were kept At the time her father was working with H. B. Walters Construction Company, a Danville, Illinois, firm. He died at age 89 in 1953. When Mrs. Taylor was about three, the family moved to West Lebanon where her father took up farming. She was graduated from high school there at 16 and from Brown’s Business College in Danville, 111-, at 18. Her first job, 1925, was as County Agricultural Agent in Warren County, and in 1933 she joined the State Farm Bureau in the statehouse in Indianapolis. Presently she is financial Sec. of State Library where she has been employed for the past 12 years. Married to a boyhood sweetheart who also has Fort Harrison ties—he helped put up buildings at Fort Harrison during World War II when he was a carpentdb —Mrs. Taylor returns regularly Sr West Lebanon for visits with her mother and two brothers, Harry L. Salts and Richard F. Salts. In 45 years, she has never misused a high school reunion. This year, she claims, will probably be the most memorable as present where her first, second, third and fourth grade teachers! Mrs. Taylor returned last week for a visit to her birthplace at Fort Harrison and to search for the “pear tree” which her family used to tell her she was born under. New construction and beautification projects which have been underway the past few years at the Fort may be the reason the exact tree was not located, but Mrs. Tayylor did know the general vicinity so the bld construction shack in which she was born. She also contributed a packet of faded but still recognizable photographs of the Fort in its earl days which will be added to the collection at the Fort Harrison Museum. Mrs. Taylor attends St. Christopher’s Church in Speedway in which she is very active, and she is a member of the National Secretaries Association. Fort Harrison’s 63rd anniversary celebration will include four two-hour tours of the post, starting at 8:30 a.m., a band concert at 12:30 p.m., and special exhibits showing 1906 Army gear contrasted with present day equipment in front of post headquarters. The public is invited. Reservations for tours may be made through the Post Information Of- ‘ fice, 546-9211 Extention 3141.
