a pool table in the town so, in order to prevent the degradation of the fair city’s youth, he organized a boy’s band. He sold the townfolk the instruction books, instruments and uniforms with the understanding that he was to lead the band and teach the boys how to play. The only problem was that he didn’t know a bass drum from a pipe organ! When the citizens of River City found this out, they were out to tar and feather Harold, until along came Marian, town librarian and music teacher. Amid a kaleidioscope of riproaringly funny gymnasium scenes, tender moments and hectic chase sequences, Cupid’s arrow hit Marian and Harold, the town got its boys’ band and, in the end, the town lived happily ever after.
Marian and her “white knight”, Harold, are coming xo town (in the persons of Denny Smith and Cathy Doak), bringing little Amaryllis and her “special someone’ shy, lisping Winthrop (Marsh Engle and Gary McCormick). Also coming is Harold’s kooky sidekick, Marcellus, and his “Shipoopi”, Ethel Tofflemeir (Bob Harbin and Sally Sigmund). The verbose Mayor Shinn is bringing his talented wife, Eulalie Mackecknie Shinn, and the harmonizing school board (Terry Young, Mark Wright, Craig LaForte and Mike Giant), along with all the “lowa Stubborn”
