Bradford Woods was a gift of the three Bradford brothers, John, Albert and Perry, to Indiana University for the use and benefit of the children of Indiana. The Riley Association provided funds for the construction of a dam across valley so that a 110-acre lake became a reality where children can enjoy fishing, swimming and boating. Camp Riley, because it was developed with the handicapped child in mind, provides all-wea-ther cottage-cabins, a large dining hall, craft shelter, a swimming pool where the water temperature can be controlled, and areas for outdoor fun and frolic. cian and a registered nurse are on duty 24 hours a day. In addition, fifteen student nurses from the I.U. School of Nursing supplement this health staff as a part of their training. A fully equipped infirmary is a part of the camp facility. A truck equipped with a power lift and a side-ramp pickup truck are used in transporting children in wheelchairs or others, whose handicaps make walking difficult, around the camp terrain. Each child may attend nondenominational religious services at the camp, but arrangements can also be made to take children who desire to nearby churches. Since applications are accepted and assignments made to the camp on a first-come, first-served begis, it is to the advantage of a child wishing to be enrolled in one or the other of the sessions to get the application in early. For the child whose parents can not afford the expense of the camp, there are camperships provided by philanthropic-minded individuals and organizations. Information about Camp Riley and application forms may be obtained from the Riley Memorial Association, 129 East Market Street, Indianapolis. The telephone number is 634-4474.
