Social Security Information Do you have any questions on old age, survivors or disability insurance? If so, send them to QUESTIONS & ANSWERS, Social Security Administration, 2000 N. Meridian St., Indianapolis, Indiana. Q. I have to pay the social security tax on the tips I receive from patrons. What good does it do me? A. Social security benefits are based on how much a person earns over the years. By adding your tips to your regular wages, your social security benefit will be higher. Q. Why are social security taxes raised from time to time? A. Social security taxes are raised from time to time to finance increased benefit amounts and other improvements in the program. Naturally, when benefits increase and new types of benefits are added, costs increase and social security taxes must be raised accordingly. Q. If I file for disabled widows benefits at age 50 will I receive the same amount that I would at 60? A. No, your benefit amount at age 50 would be only 50% of your husband's amount. At age 60 it would be 71%% of that amount

Put Rubbish on the Run Beauty is only skin deep, according to the old saying. Sometimes clean-up around the house during the year is only skin deep too. Out where the family does most of its living, everything is neat and orderly as can be. But how about the attic or storage closet, the basement workroom or garage corner? “These are apt to be the forgotten spots,” says Fire Chief Sowell. “And they can be the trouble spots, where destructive, dangerous fire starts.” Put rubbish on the run in all these areas, the chief urges. Clean out any stacks of newspapers and magazines, discarded clothing, mattresses, old furniture and lamp shades, draperies all the clutter that collects in attics, basements and closets. Do the same clean-up job in the home workshop too shavings, scraps, oily rags, old paint cans. Don’t forget about the trash accumulating in the garage, and get rid of any crates and cartons outside the house.
“A good, thorough clean-up job now and repeated at regular intervals is one of the smartest things you can do to keep your home and family safe from fire,” Chief Sowell says. Concern for Mankind Described in Eli Lilly Documentary “But More Than This,” a 30minute Eli Lilly documentary
