Meridian St., Indianapolis, Ind. Q. I am 64 years old and I am getting monthly social security checks. Will I have to do anything to get Medicare when I get to be age 65? A. There are two parts to Medicare. You will automatically be covered by the Hospital part of Medicare when you reach age 65 since you are already getting social security. If you want the Medical Insurance part of Medicare (it helps pay for doctor bills) you have to sign up for it. Three months before you are age 65, a card will be sent to you for this purpose. Q. New Studded Tires are now Legal, says Huber “Many Hoosier motorists may not be aware that studded tires are not only legal in Indiana but highly recommended by the state’s safety authorities,” reports Albert E. Huber, executive director of the INDIANA TRAFFIC SAFETY COUNCIL, INC. Studded tires, formerly outlawed, were approved by the 1967 General Assembly, Huber added. Some highway authorities opposed studded tires for fear the studs would damage pavements but experience in recent years has shown the safety aspects of the studded tire/greatly outweighed any small ambunt of damage they may do to the road surface. Huber pointed out that studded tires, while giving much better traction than regular tires or snow tires were still inferior to reinforced tire chains as far as affording the best traction. He also warned that many drivers are lulled into a false sense of security with snow tires. Such tires, he said, are superior to regular ones in snow, but provide little or no advantage on glare icj or packed snow. New innovations in automotive equipment are of invaluable help to the safety movement, Huber concluded, but nothing will replace a cautious, careful driver.

Programmer's Test Scheduled at Indiana Central College Group testing dates for those persons who are interested in enrolling in Indiana Central College’s Computer Technology Program have been announced. The Programmer’s Aptitude Test will be administered without charge or obligation on the evenings of January 15, January 23 and January 27 starting at 6:00 p.m. Those persons who demonstrate sufficient aptitude by passing the one-hour written test will be eligible to enroll in the Computer Technology Program which will begin on February 4. By attending two evenings each week students can complete the Computer Technology Program in one calendar year. Graduates of the program have a computer orientation with a basic understanding of the principles of systems design. A workable knowledge of various programming languages is developed with the graduate capable of developing programs for us on a disk oriented, random access computer. Further information regarding the program and the Aptitude Test may be obtained by contacting the Center for Industrial Relations and Continuing Education, Indiana Central College, 4001 Otterbein Avenue, Indianapolis, 46227.
