Should spontaneous combustion occur in a galvanized steel can, the fire can no more than smolder if the cover is in place. Even if the cover is removed, the fire can be confined until the cover is put back to smother the flames. Fire resistance capabilities of galvanized steel garbage cans were tested by the General Services Administration in Washington and determoined to be far safer than any non-metal container. Rats are compulsive gnawers who like to eat through the insulation on electric wiring as well as non-metallic garbage containers. They would not be interested in gaining entry to a home or establishment unless attracted by unkempt trash storage.
Children's Museum Christmas customs of children in other lands will be described to youngsters at holiday program at the Children’s Museum, 3010 N. Meridian, this Saturday morning (Dec. 21) at 11 o’clock. The public also is invited to visit the museum’s Victorian Christmas gallery to see a popcorn and cranberry laden tree Each Saturday in December the museum’s science gallery will be open for experiments and demonstrations at 10, 11, 12 and 2 o’clock. Free craft classes meet at 3:45 each Tuesday and Thursday and on Wednesdays at the same hour museum games, gallery talks and stories are featured. The Children’s Museum is open Tuesday through Saturday, 8 to 5, and until 9 o’clock Friday evenings. It will dose at noon Tuesday, December 24, and will reopen at 9 a.m. Thursday December 26. The museum is always closed on Mondays.
Children's Mussum Christmas Program “The King in the Manger,” a special Christmas program about nativity scenes, will be given at the Children’s Museum, 3010 N. Meridian, this Friday evening (Dec. 20) at 7:30 o’clock. Mrs. Wilbur D. Peat will present an illustrated story of the Christmas creche, using color slides to traces the history of this custom from its beginning about 300 A J), to the present time. Indianapolis Hiking Club On December 22, at 2 past, the Indianapolis Hiking Club will have a moderate hike of 8-8 miles in the vicinity of the new Eagle Creek dam. Go to 62nd St entrance of Eagle Creek Park and park just inside of entrance on parkway. Cars will leave east side of State House at 1 p.m.
