SCHOOL NEWS More than 1,400 students are currently enrolled in summer educational activities at Speedway Schools. Swimming instruction is available for all age groups. Library facilities' are open to the public and a library reading program is offered to school-age children. Also included in the summer program are classes for reading improvement, foreign language, science, tennis, gymnastics, and driver training. Summer 4-H projects have been completed and exhibited; the theatre group presented three plays; and both individual and group instruction in instrumental music are now being given in the junior and senior high schools. MARCINCZYK - EVANS Reesa Gail Evans, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Paul D. Evans, 5818 West 29th Place, Speedway, Indiana was married to Stanislaus Wilhelm Marcinczyk, son of Mr. & Mrs. Witold C. Marcinczyk of Rockford, Illinois. Married at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Saturday, July 6, 1968, at 2:30 p.m. with Father Ripperger performing the ceremony. The honor attendents were, the bride’s sister Reena D. Evans and the groom’s brother Leon J. Marconczyk. The flower girl was Lori Lynn Evans, cousin of the bride from Kalamazoo, Michigan. The ushers were, Kent W. Evans, brother of the bride, and Robert Bartusevicius, cousin of the groom of Rockford, Illinois. Bride wore: Princess style floor-length gown, A-line skirt, scooped neckline, long sleeves, with detachable chapel train accented with appliques of Viennese Lace, the gown and train being of candlelight silk peau. Her veil of candlelight was caught up to a petal headpiece outlined with seed pearls. Her Bouquet: Cascade of pink rosebuds, stephanotis and ivy, with a white orchid coursage in the center. The Maid of Honor wore: Semi-' empire waist A-line long gown of emerald green karate. With a scooped neckline and elbowlength sleeves. The back panel was accented with three roses at mid-shoulder. Her Flowers: Nosegay of yellow roses, with white daisies and white carnations. The flower girl wore: Long gown of Karate green with canddlelight lace over it. She carried a basket of white daises, and rose petals. Reception held: The bride’s parents home. The honeymoon was held in Chicago, Illinois. The Bride is a 1967 graduate of Speedway Senior High, she attended Rockford College, Rockford, Illinois last year, where she was named on the Dean’s list for the Spring semester. The groom attends Rock Valley College, Rockford, Illinois. They will live in Rockford, Illinois where both will further their educatons.

ST. CHRISTOPHER SUMMER FESTIVAL St. Christopher Church, 5335 West 16th street, will hold their 32nd gala three-day Festival with “Tops in Food” on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, July 25, 26, and 27. The Festival will be held on the parish grounds. There will be a Fish Fry all three nights and a fried chicken dinner, served a la carte, on Saturday night only. There also will be many kinds of salads, vegetables, and sandwiches and pie from which to choose in the dining room and at the snack bar, all served cafeteria style. The dining room in the school building and the snack bar under the big tent will open at 5:00 pm. :carry-out at 4:30 pm. :and Festival activities will start at 7:00 pm.

KRANNERTY.M.C.A. ACTIVITIES Yes, there’s going to be an old fashion ice cream social and band concert at the Krannert Family Y.M.C.A., 605 & High School Rd. on Sunday, July 28 from 4-6 pm. Non Y and Y members are invited to swim and enjoy the festivities from 4-6 for $.50 for adults and $.25 for children under 12 years old. Be sure to bring your blankets for sitting. See you where the action is. Each lady is asked to bring a cake. The Ben Davis Band which will be 90 members strong will play at 4:30 p.m. and again at 5:30 p.m. under the direction of Hal Meurer.
PARK NEWS Its play-off time for our Peanut League and Jr.-Hi Basketball program. This week has seen the end of the regular season league play and winners will be announced next week. The Basketball tourney starts on Monday and will finish on Friday with the award picnic to be held at 1:00 at the Main Park Shelter House. The Peanut teams of both Leonard and Meadowood will clash to decide each parks representative to meet for the Park Championship. Playoffs will begin at Meadowood Thursday, July 25 with the Sparkplugs playing the Pirates at 1:00 on Diamond No. 1 and the Yankees and the league leading Astroids meeting at the same time on Diamond No. 2. Ruperts to Celebrate 50th Anniversary i Mr. and Mrs. Raymon Rupert, 1616 N. Gerrard, Speedway, will be honored at a reception, honoring their 50th wedding anniversary. It will be held on July 28, 1968, at the Holiday Inn, 4665 W. 16th St. 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Mr. and Mrs. Rupert were married in Indianapolis, July 27,1918. Mr. Rupert retired after 46 years with the Link-Belt Co., in January, 1965. They are active members of Eighth Christian Church. Their children are Charles Rupert and Phyllis Urbancic. They have four grandchildren and one great grandchild. All friends invited. No invitations were issued.
Priebe - Thompson The Speedway Christian Church was the setting for the marriage of Rebecca Suzanne Priebe to Phillip Thompson last Friday evening. Parents of the couple are Dr. and Mrs. Fred H. Priebe, 6802 W. 34th, and Mr. and Mrs. Leon Thompson, New Market, Indiana. Rev. R. Powell Mead read the couple ring ceremony and officiated at the communion table. Preceding the ceremony a program of wedding music was played by Alan Davis. The bride, given away by her father, wore a silk organza gown. The bodice was trimmed with seedpearls and small insets of lace. Bands of lace trimmed the elbow length bell-shaped sleeves. The cage of the samed material formed a chapel length train. Her handmade petal headpiece held her fingertip illuson veil. She carried white roses and miniature turquoise carnations. She wore pearl earrings and necklace, the gift of the groom. Mrs. Steve Priebe was her sis-ter-in-law’s matron of honor and Stan Priebe was best man. Bridesmaids were Misses Sue Bell, Virginia Smith, and Sandra Thompson. All wore turqoise linen floor length dresses with sequin trim. Each carried a single white rose. Groomsmen were Steve Priebe, Jon Hester, and John Thompson. Terry Priebe and Kent Priebe acted as ushers. Junior Usher, Brian Thompson, seated the mothers. Following the ceremony a reception was given in Fellowship Hall. The bride and groom are graduates of New Market High School. The bride attended Indiana State University and in September will enter Indiana University Dental School for Dental Hygienists. After a short honeymoon the couple will be at home at 111 South Grant, Crawforsville, where the groom is employed at R. R. Donnelly and Sons.

FRED B. READ Funeral services for Fred Burton Read, 54 years old, 2506 North Llndhurst Drive, service manager for the Indiana Equipment Company, were held Saturday, July 20 in Farley Speedway Chapel. Burial was in Crown Hill Cemetery. Mr. Read, who died Wednesday July 17 while on a camping trip near lowa City, la., was with the industrial equipment firm for 22 years. He was a native of Scottsville, Ky., an Indianapolis resident for 25 years and an Army veteran of World War 11, during which he served in the Canal Zone for three years. He was a charter member and elder of the John Knox Presbyteria Church, an adult advisor for the Order of DeMoley, and a member of the Englewood Masonic Lodge and the Balboa (Canal Zone) Scottish Rite. Survivors include the widow, Mrs. Pauline Read; a daughter, Miss Paula Read, at home; three sons, Rodney, 8., Randall A. and Fred P. Read, all at home, and two sisters, Mrs. Polly Dixon of Clearwater, Fla., and Mrs. Mildred Bemis of San Francisco.

BOOKWORM READING CLUB Participants in the Summer Recreational Reading Program at the Senior High School Library who have completed the reading of 15 or more books during the summer may pick up their certificates at the Library desk anytime during the week of August 5-9. Circulation will stop on August 8 and the Library will close for the summer at 4:00 p.m. on August 9. All books in circulation should be returned and reports made before that closing hour.
