SPEEDWAY METHODIST CHURCH Continued from Pbgn 1 the spiritual Birthday of John Wesley, founder of Methodism. Secondly, it is the Sunday before the Festival of Ascension. Once, I learn, the four great festivals of the church, Christmas, Easter, Whitsun and Ascension were held in equal honor. But though we celebrate Christmas and Easter, Pentecost is not much empasized and Ascension is all but forgotten. And ... he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight.” What was His destination? What did it mean? Has all this anything to say about life beyond? This will be our theme. We invite you to be present at either the 8:45 or the 11:00 aun. services. THE RECEPTION OF MEMBERS During the 11 a.m. service on Sunday next there will take place the reception of new members. "500 TIME . . . FOR METHODIST MEN" The Annual “FatherSon Banquet” always held at “500” time, will take place on Monday next, 20th May. It is hoped that once again we shall have members of the Racing Community with us. Men ... let us have your reservations ... SOON! The railing committee will be contacting you during this week. If however, they should be unable to make contact with you, please phone the church office (241-1563) Please pick up tickets before 6:30 p.m. on the 20th. THE ANNUAL METHODIST CONFERENCE The Annual Conference of Northwest Indiana Methodism will convene on Wednesday, 22nd May. The Official delegates for the Speedway Church are Mr. Forrest Robertson and Mr. Ray Methier. This is to be an important meeting, for it is almost certain that it will the concluding conference for the Northwest area due to the merging of the North and Northwest Conferences due to take place this year. It will also be the last conference where Bishop Raines will preside before his retirement CHOIR SUNDAY Again the last Sunday in May will be observed as “Choir Sunday” and our choirs will present the two services at 8:45 and 11:00 a.m. Do make this a firm fixture on your calendar, and be present to worship with us on that day. BACCALAUREATE SUNDAY, Sunday, June 2nd Again the first Sunday in June will be observed as “Baccalaureate Sunday with Student Day,” and we shall honor members of the Graduating Class who are within our Church family, and also who are presently in college. Invitations are being sent out to all young people who will be invited to an informal reception in the FellowHall at 10:00 a.m. preceding the service. We warmly invite families to join us for this worship service. The Senior Minister, James Grottick, has been honored by the invitation to preach at the Baccalaureate Service to be held at the high school later that day. day. “I have just been informed by Mrs. Jeanne Neal, coordinator of this program in our hsadquartsw in Kansas City, that more than 250 requests for applications had been received by the first of this month and that the requests continue to come in steadily,” Mrs. Ahrbecker said. “We knew that the big problem would be to get the word of this research grant program to qualified women, women who have
completed work for their master’s degree. We certainly did not expect the number of inquiries we already have received. We have been amazed by the vast range and value of the projects sugested to date. “Even more indicative of the need for this kind of assistance for research is the fact that quite a few men have requested applications, although our announcements have always specified our sponsorship is for women. We hope our pioneering work in this area will attract other sources of support for projects by both men and women.” Alpha Delta Kappa plans three SB,OOO grants, the first winner to be selected late this year. Subsequent winners will be selected in tiie next two bienniums.
