The “Great Society” is a lofty thought and phrase that will be a historical topic in years to come. A comparison of past and present societies might be in order—now... For example— The Pilgrims lived in difficult times. They dared not even hope for the soft comforts of our present day conveniences. But, they were humble and proud in their priceless posses sion of faith. In spite of their deprivations, theirs was a “Great Society” because God was in their midst, in their minds and hearts. In comparison, it would seem there can not be and will not be a “Great Society” in any community of greed or Godlessness. When desires for higher living standards, for greater quantities and qualities of comforts and conveniences cause a resettling of the spirit of man .. . and when in discussion, commotion and confusion, a desire for spiritual need is lacking, the result will be a “Greedy Society.” No sweet conversation can develop a “Great Society* as long as mild curiosity, indifference, insincere lip service or sour skepticism toward spiritual needs exist There can only be a successful pilgrimage on the Glory Road toward a “Great Society* when we hear and heed the Voice that warns us to detour around the danger—the Voice that tells us of the risks in seeking materialistics at the cost of losing our souls along the way. . . .
