Heating Salesmen— Misrepresentation Recent reports to the Better Business Bureau indicate that solicitors for commercial heating firms are misrepresenting themselves as employees of the gas company or as city inspectors in an apparent effort to sell furnaces to unsuspecting homeowners.
The 888 today urged the public to be wary of this scheme. The Bureau pointed out that the gas utility does not have sales people contacting homeowners in this area and that service calls are made only at the request of customers. Gas company personnel are uniformed and operate from clearly marked vehicles. City inspectors also carry identification which is promptly shown upon request the Bureau said. Ray Dearing, 888 General Manager, stated that only a few

At times, some people confuse the distintion between courage and cowardice. Courage does not always imply an absence of fear; nor does cowardice always imply an excess of fear. Common sense linked with conscience is involved in the distinction. For example, some people think it takes courage to speed past a car on a hill or curve. Screeching tires, shrieking voices, swerving cars, and often head-on collisions point an accusing finger toward that kind of courage. Since common sense did not prevail and since lack of conscience for a possible tragedy did prevail, was the driver really courageous—or cowardly? Courage with a conscience gives us strength to face distinctions between right and wrong, between the things wo should do and should not do. At times, it may even take courage to be classed as a coward. But as long a* common sense is used with a clear conscience, cowardice is glorified beyond that of courage. Life requires boldness. Boldness requires courage. But courage should never create tragedy or destraction, when such catastrophies can be avoided . . . Farley Bp»*way Funeral Name. SNA North High Scheel Bead, Pheno ttl-HM

salesmen resort to gross misrepresentation of this kind. Such practices are shunned by the many reputable heating firms doing business in this area, he said. Dearing advised homeowners to check with the 888 before dealing with a company or salesman whose reputation is unknown to the buyer.
