home, after which he drops it in the mailbox and the process is finished elsewhere, Dr. Richard C. Powell, chairman of the Indianapolis Diabetes Drive Committee, explained today. Called Dreypak, the kit is distributed by the American Diabetes Association, and is used for diabetes screening in hundreds of communities. It consists of a strip of chemically-treated paper which comes in a return envelope. Instructions for its use are printed on the flap of the envelope. After following those instruc-
tions, the user replaces the paper strip in the envelope, seals it, and mails it to the Indianapolis Diabetes Association, 810 Hume Mansur Building, Indianapolis, 46204. At the laboratory, glucose oxidase solution is applied to the strip and the resulting color tells the laboratory technician whether there is sugar in the urine of the person who has taken the test “Of course such tests—in fact any urine tests—are only preliminary,” Dr. Powell said, “but they do indicate whether a person should have a further test to make certain whether or not he has diabetes.” Dreypaks for use during Diabetes Week can be obtained from every pharmacy in Marion County, at Wasson’s at Eastgate Shop-

Dr. Powell pointed out that the persons most likely to develop diabetes are those who have relatives with diabetes, those who are more than 45 years of age and those who are overweight. Hence, it is especially important that such people be tested. “But diabetes does occur in people of both sexes at any age, so that Diabetes Dection Drive is really a valuable service for everyone,” Dr. Powell concluded. PStSONALS John Allen, Ball State’s freshman halfback from Speedway, compiled the best rushing average during the Cardinals* threegame frosh schedule, according to final statistics. Allen gained 183 yards in 38 carries for an average of 5.3 yards per rush for the Cardinal frosh, who won two of their three outings. Allen’s total yardage was third on the team. Ha also caught four passes for 48 yards. The 190-pound all-sport star, who was voted Marion County’s outstanding athlete last year, is now out for the Ball State freshman basketball team. The annual freshman-varsity game is scheduled for Tuesday,, but Allen is a doubtful performer because he just began working out Allen was the top Spark Hug in three sports, earning all-coun-ty recognition as a junior and a senior in football, basketball and baseball. The BSU freshmen defeated Western Michigan, 31-9, and Indiana State, 48-14, after losing to Butler, 29-22.

A WORD TO THE LOVELY LADY Surely, by now, you have spent some time analysing your personality and made some definite convictions and decisions as to your status of approaching that “unforgettable woman” plane. I am certain I have given you much “food for thought” concerning this fabulous achievement. There is, also another virture many of us do not quite comprehend . . . that is Generosity! The word may be somewhat misleading, but, in this case it means ‘giving of yourself*. To extend a portion of yourself, whether it be understanding, time or as a morale booster, is a beautiful gesture, very seldom forgotten, even if you feel taken for granted at the moment! It is rare to receive a ‘thank-you’, the pleasure of thanks is obtained along with the privilege of being able to fulfill in this need of another. What could be more rewarding than being in the position of filling in another person’s need? Generosity of a person not easily forgotten comes from an inward giving instead of a material source! Material objects deteriorate in time, but, the goodness and kindness of a friend becomes a greater treasure with the passing of time, and, this type of generosity is the apogee of giving. If you have given only a few moments of thought to my recent articles of personality improvement and obtainment of becoming that “unforgettable woman”, I am sure the blend of a beautiful interior as well as that desirable exterior will definately create a change in your life and a fulfillment of being far more complete as a LOVELY YADY. Practice makes perfect and if one is constantly aware of developing these virtures, the goal is not. too far away .... Sincerely, Claudia
