WESTSIDE HOSPITAL DEVELOPMENT For as far back as 30 years, various groups of citizens have pressed for development of medical and health care facilities on the westside of Marion County. Until recently, these groups have been informally organized, represented only portions of the westside area, represented special interests, or lacked concentrated effort The creation of the Greater Westside Hospital Development Corporation as an incorporated, non-profit entity has done much to improve the situation. Among several things, the corporation: a) Is representative of citizens from all areas of the westside. Many of these are citi-

zens who have long engaged in making the westside a better place to hv* and work. b) Has the known support of community organizations, local government bodies, and many westside medical persons. c) Is a legal entity capable of making contracts, raising funds, and conducting business. d) Has worked cooperatively through the Indianapolis Hospital Development Association and at the same time appraised other medical and community agencies and institutions of its work. Most importantly, an organization has now been created which can serve as a focal point for development of westside medical and health care facilities, and has the potential to work in concert with the Indianapolis community as a whole. The Greater Westside Hospital Development Corporation has initiative and this initiative must be retained. It deserves our support.

Wise men wrote in our Declaration oI Independence ». among men's unalienable rights are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness .. * Lets think about the 'pursuit'. Many people frantically, and some times tragically pursue happiness over twisted, tortuous roads but never find it. Perhaps the Declaration of Independence would be better worded if it stated, . . “the right to EARN happiness" . . , Happiness can never be found, no matter how wild the pursuit, if it is not earned. Perhaps one of the biggest stumbling blocks in pursuing happiness is selfishness. Somewhere in the path of life, and often in childhood, the first stumbling blocks are laid in a pattern. As the pattern takes form, self centered thoughts, selfish expectations and demands, cause happiness to be elusive. Remove the stumbling blocks of selfishness and the road to happiness is straightened around. It is the best way to find happiness because the block removal is the best way to earn it...
