CHILDREN'S MUSEUM The Fort Benjamin Harrison band will make a special appearance for the youngsters of the community at the Children’s Museum, 3010 N. Meridian St., this Saturday morning, July 29. An hour of rousing band music on the museum lawn will be the treat for children, but adults are invited to the free concert, too. In case of rain the concert will be in the museum assembly room. The July series of craft workshops will be completed this week and the August series will begin next Tuesday with graphic arts and Thursday with art in the round. The July series of Girl Scout and Camp Fire Girl badge classes will also end this Saturday and the August series will begin next week. Classes to be offered in August are folklore and dabbler. OPEN HOUSE AT CHILDRENS HOME An open house has been planned by the General Protestant Children’s Home located at 1404 S. State St, Sunday, Aug. 6, 2 to 4 pm. Anyone is cordially invited to attend the centennial celebration, meet our children, visit with them and our fine staff and tour the home. The Boy Scouts band will play and refreshments will be served. Operation of the home is directed by a board of 15 trustees headed by Charles Symmes, an attorney. Mr. A. C. Moldthan of Speedway is one of the trustees. Mrs. Moldthan is a member of the ladies auxiliary. Mrs. Arthur E. Bainbridge is president of the auxiliary.
STUDENT WORK High school and college students looking for summer work are still contacting the Youth Opportunity Center in Indianapolis, according to Paul O. Roales, Manager. Roales said today that applications are running ahead of last year, but that job openings are fewer, in comparison. So far this summer, the Youth Opportunity Center, an office of the Indiana State Employment Service, has registered over 4,400 young applicants seeking summer vacation work. work. Of these, 254 were placed in summer jobs. Approximately 86 placements have been made in seasonal form work. Roales urged employers to list with his office all job openings to which a young person might be referred. He said that many young applicants currently registered have acquired work experience during previous summers as construction workers, factory workers, file clerks, grocery clerks, stock boys, salespersons and many other skills that could be used to advantage.
MAJOR NEW ADDITION PLANNED AT ZOO Construction of a large aviary at the Indianapolis Zoo is scheduled to get underway in the near future. Announcement of the major new addition to the zoo’s facilities was made jointly this week by Robert R. Baxter, president of the Indianapolis Zoological Society, and Emsley W. Johnson, Jr., chairman of the board of the Arthur Jordon Foundation. The foundation is providing the funds to construct the aviary. Overall dimensions of the Lshaped structure will be 60 by 48 feet. The aviary will consist of two parts, a flight cage which is to be open to the sky and an inner sanctuary which will be roofed and heated. Birds will be free flying within

the aviary and visitors will be able to walk through the facility to view them. During the winter months the birds will stay in the heated sanctuary area. Russell R. Hirschman, vice president of the zoological society, and members of the zoo’s building committee, visited many aviaries and talked with zoo officials throughout the country before selecting the aviary design. Fleck, Burkart and Shropshire are the architects. The Indianapolis Zoo is located at 3120 E. 30th Street in George Washington Park.

Coliseum shows will be August 28, 29, 30, and 31, with matinees beginning at 3:00 pan.
