Past mistakes, past hurts, quarrels and injusttices, the memory of these can arise out of the past to haunt and disturb the present. Summer Theatre Stages Additional Production Six weeks ago eight students from Speedway High School began rehearsing a production for Prologue Players on the south side of Indianapolis. The production was originally scheduled for last week, but technical problems forced Prologue to cancel the play. As a result of this, the play will be presented at Speedway High School, Thursday and Friday, July .27 and. 28, at 8:00 p.m.
The play, “A Hatful of Rain,” is an adult drama concerning drug addiction and marital problems. In a New York lower-type apartment live a husband and wife and the husband’s brother. The husband has not been the same since his prolonged stay in a hospital. He cannot hold a job, and is frequently away overnight without an explanation. His card - playing companions come to bother him, and a stranger, more fearsome crew was never encountered. The husband’s brother has yearnings for the young wife. She pleads for her husband’s love and confidence; his strange, inexplicable life has driven her to the edge of hysteria. Finally the showdown comes. The husband acquired the habit of dope in the hospital, and is now practically incurable. His “pals’” are coming to collect, or to drive him to crime. He is beaten, but he is determined to try to rage and sweat through a cure. W do not know if he will make it; but his wife will be with him throughout the harrowing delirium. This play is an adult drama, perhaps the most sophisticated play presented at the high school. It is recommended for mature audiences only. Tickets may be purchased at the door at performances, or call 291-7207.

THIS WEEK SPEEDWAY SUMMER THEATRE PRESENTS “THE WIZARD OF OZ” THURSDAY, JULY 20, 2:00 P.M. FRIDAY, JULY 21, 2:00 P.M.; 8:00 P.M. SATURDAY, JULY 22, 2:00 P.M.
Final Production of Children's Theatre Next Week On July 27, 28, and 29, Speedway Summer Theatre will present its fourth and last production, “The Land of the Dragon.” This is a charming Chinese fairy tale that’s’ a little on the abstract side. Even though the sets are simple and the props few, the story is delightful. “The Land of the Dragon” is the story of the lovely princess Jade Pure who
is held captive by her jealous, scheming aunt and her chancellor. Road Wanderer, a minstrel, passing through the country with his pet dragon, learns of her plight and rescues her, but disappears when she seems to him thoughtless and unkind. Making an effort to find him, Jade Pure decrees that the man she marries must have a pet dragon, and in the next scene two false dragons arrive, awkwardly practicing dragon ways, and scrambling for safety when they catch a glimpse of each other. Road Wanderer escapes from captivity just in time to save Jade Pure from a fatal marriage.
The cast is small, but the characters enchanting. There is Princess Jade Pure played by Lora Hittie. The wicked aunt, Precious Harp, is played by Linda Hodge; 21-Cousin, 22-Cousin, and 23-Cousin, maids to Jade Pure, are Debbie Ordel, Lynn Tackitt, and Debbie Taylor. Road Wanderer is Preston Sinks. Covet Spring, the chancellor, is played by Sam Bastianelli. Twenty-fourth Cousin is played by Bruce Roberts. Small One, the dragon, is played by Eric DeWeese. The stage manager is Bruce Frazer and the property manager, Bob Harbin. Performance times are Thursday, July 27; Friday, July 28; Saturday, July 29, at 2:00. There will be no evening performance. Tickets are 75c. There are special group rates. For tickets call Summer Theatre box office at 244-0871, or write Mr. Don Johnson, Speedway High School, 5357 W. 25th Street, Speedway, Ind.
