A Word To The Lovely Lady... The eyebrows are the frames for the eyes, just as the eyes are the windows to the soul. This is the area so many of us apply make-up to incorrectly. First of all, if you wear glasses, and, many fair lasses do, The eyebrows are to be seen above the frames of the glasses, otherwise, your glasses are too large for the features of your face. Nowadays, the lovely styles one can find in glases, the wearer need not feel unglamorous, therefore, the use of eye-make-up is a necessity. I have already talked to you about eye-make-up, but, did not stress the specific art of proper eye-brow application. One important item, of course, is the choice of eye-brow pencil. One may use the powder type of make-up if the brows are perfectly formed and dark enough. If this is not the case, and, complete coverage is necessary, use a pencil with a very fine point, some of these are labled as eyeliner pencils. Use this pencil as a guage for the starting point, end of brow and highest point, which is the arch. Place pencil beside nose, past inner corner of eye, that is where the eye-brow should begin. Place Pencil in a slanted direction from edge of nose over center of eye, not eyeball, that is where the arch of brow should be. Make a slight mark with pencil point at these

guide points. End of brow is found by placing pencil beside nose, over end of eye, on outer corner. Using the three pencil marks as a guide, gently, with short, light strokes, fill in the eye-brow. You can always go over this area to darken, instead of using a heavy hand in the first place. You would be surprised at how often a Charcoal pencil blends into the different shades of hair coloring and complextion. After this frame for the eyes is perfectly sketched, powder the brow down and use a small brush to blend the strokes and remove any harsh lines. You will face the world with a lovelier outlook when these extra points of attention are given to your eye-brows. The fashion at present is a very natural look, therefore, do not pluck your brows too thin. The use of wax to remove the fuzzy hair under the brow line is simple and the effects last longer. Learning the art of proper use of make-up can be fun and not as time consuming as you may imagine. Give this a try, Lovely Lady, and, you may find the results very interesting to yourself and certainly, to others! Sincerely Claudia

Wa thought for the weekß
“Mommy, fix it, please.” . . . “Mother, help me, please.” ... As children, we knew we could count on her, and we did. She understood us. She was our insulation against childish chills of fear and anxieties. As time goes on, many mothers hear different words; strange words of impatience, irritation, exasperation—yes, even rebellion. They hear, “Oh, mother, you just don’t understand.” In later years, if we will only admit it, we know many mothers did understand things that were beyond our understanding in former years. But, there are some things a mother should not be expected to understand at any time. How can she understand why days and weeks go by with no word from those she likes to hear from? How can she understand why she is expected to be insensitive to indifference or neglect? How can she understand why expected phone calls don’t come through? How can she understand why (unwritten) letters don’t arrive? Incidentally, has anyone ever heard a mother tell a postman, “I don’t want any mail today”? Yet, on Mother’s Day, in spite of our thoughtlessness on other days, she understands. But, wouldn’t it be more pleasant for her on other days, if demands for her understanding would be less on other days? . . . Farley Speedway Funeral Homa, 2950 North High School Road. Phono 291-1193.
