Symphony Luncheon Wednesday, April 26th The Membership Luncheon and Style Show, sponsored by The West Symphony Group, will be held at the Indianapolis Country Club, Country Club Road, Wednesday, April 26th, at 12:30. The $3.50 luncheon will consist of veal scallopini, french green beans, fruit salad, cheese cake and coffee. Included in this, of course, will be the lovely spring showings from Davidson’s Fur Salon. Tickets may be purchased from any member of the Symphony Group.

Union Carbide Forms New Division To Produce Materials Systems Formation of the Materials Systems Division of Union Carbide Corporation was announced today by Birny M. Mason, Jr., chairman of the board. Richard S. Abrams has been appointed president of the new division and Currie E. Ford, executive vicepresident. Mr. Abrams had been president of the Food Products Division and Mr. Ford was vicepresident of Carbon Products Division. The Corporation’s present Stellite Division, with headquarters at Kokomo, Indiana, will become part of the new Division. The Stellite Division produces specialty metals as well as combinations of metals and ceramics as castings for jet blades and in other semi-finished forms to combat extreme conditions of heat, corrosion or wear. Extensive use is being made of five Stellite alloys, for example, in the engine (Continued on page 5)

The Speedway Lions Chib win present its sth program of its “Travel and Adventure Series” on Sat, April 8, 1967 evening at 8 in the High School auditorium. The featured artist win be Howard Pollard, who win present his latest travel film, “SPOTLIGHT ON SPAIN”. Howard Pollard is a resident of Detroit, Michigan and has a background in engineering and photography. He has produced several films for medical and surgical use, and technical films for veterinarian instruction. He branched into travelogue photography and has produced four travel films, including: “Brazil - Under Tropical Skies”, “Colorful Colorado”, “Holiday in Quebce”, and now “Spotlight on Spain”. “SPOTLIGHT ON SPAIN” is a brilliant all-color travel film on a country where history comes to life. Remnants of many civilizations remain in Spain, including: Iberian, Phoenician, Celtic, Roman, Visigothic, and Morrish. The conquering Romans and the Moors, especially, left strong imprints of Language and Culture and had marked effect on Spanish character and temperament. Spain is an ancient country, full of sunshine, gay fiestas, sad and fiery music, great art, emotional people and magnificent architecture. Our journey through the land of fiesta and siesta will include the great cities of Madrid, Toledo,

In Toledo, the rose gardens and Roman ruins are a vivid backdrop for the activities of the people including Toledo steel being made, and for El Greco’s house and famous paintings. Highlights of Segovia, include the Roman Aqueduct, and the Alcazar; of Seville, a bullfight, a mantilla factory, and an olive factory; of Granada - the Alhambra and the old silk market; of Barcelona - the Santa Maria; or San Sebastian - the Basque games. A visit is also made to the Island of Mallorca.

BASEBAUNEWS Play Balli Yes, its that time again. One of Speedways most active youth porgrams will get underway Saturday, April 15. Your Baseball Association will begin its drive for funds, needed for equipment and expense, to conduct the 1967 season. Last year over 350 boys participated in this program. We expect a larger turnout this year. These boys will be knocking on your door to solicit your support, by purchasing a membership in the Association. If someone fails to call on you, and you wish to contribute, contact any of the Officers listed below. They will gladly pick up your contribution. The services of the coaches, managers, and officers are without charge. Umpires do receive a fee for their services. Perhaps some of you men are interested in coaching, if so call Bob Harmon, 291-7078. Speedway Methodist ; W.S.C.S. Annual Fashion Show 4 spring fashion show will be presented by Paul Harris Suburban Stores at 8:00 pan. on April 14.'The Woman’s Society of Christian Service of Speedway Methodist Church is sponsoring this annual event. Fellowship Hall will be the setting for the “Friendship Garden”. Modeling the lovely spring fashions will be Patrice Pruitt, Carol Mosser, Kathy Kelliher, John S. Allen, Donis Long, Elizabeth Frazier, Pat Merritt and Carolyn Eaton. The ladies will also model some beautiful wigs, courtesy of Beauty by Bryant, who will style the models’ hair. Lovely music will be featured by Mrs. John Clark, Mrs. William Roberts and Mrs. Robert Wise. Mrs. Paul Dorsey will be the accompanist. The chairman for this year’s fashion show is Mrs. Carl Mosser, co-ordinated by Mrs. Donald Moore.
Speedway Tri Kappa News On Tuesday, March 28th, Speedway Tri Kappas celebrated their 16th Anniversary by being hostesses to their husbands and guests at Holiday Inn Northwest. After dinner and drawing of door prizes, colored slides were shown by Russell Petit of a trip taken last May in England including a week canal boat trip into Wales. The committee, Mrs. Thomas Joyce, Chrm., Mrs. Robert Henderson, Mrs. Charles McCauley, Mrs. John Ferguson and Mrs. Russell Petit are to be complimented on a highly successful and enjoyable evening.
On April 6, 7 and 8 the Biannual State Tri Kappa Convention will be held at French Lick. Lutheran missionary the Reverend Carl Fredrickson will appear at St Andrew’s Lutheran Church, 5700 Crawfordsville Rd., (adjacent to Speedway Shopping Center) on Sunday, April 9, 5:30 PM. to tell about his ministry to people in Montivideo, Uruguay. Pastor Fredrickson has the unusual responsibility of working in an upperclass suburb of the South American capital. His work is described as “different and slow in results.” Pastor Fredrickson will be appearing at Lutheran churches throughout central Indiana, April 2-16, under the sponsorship of the Indiana-Kentucky Synod, Lutheran Church in America. His foreign service is sponsored by the LCA Board of World Missions. He is currently on his first furlough since beginning work in Uruguay in September, 1962. In preparation for their mission work, the Fredricksons had one term of orientation at the Maywood School of Missions, Chicago, and a year of language study in San Jose, Costa Rica. He is a graduate of Olivet College, Olivet, Michigan, and Augustana Theological Seminary, Rock Island, Hl. The Community is invited to this Family Night Activity. There will be cartoon movies for the small children.

THE TOWN BOARD REPORTS The Board of Trustees of the Civil Town of Speedway held their regular meeting on Monday evening May 27, 1967 in the Town Hall auditorium. The Board approved the painting of the Town Hall on the outside and the roof on the garage building. The Board discussed meter deposits for water service on rental property. This is being investigated by the Town Attorney. Mr. Robert H. Hoerger was elected President of the Board effective April 1, 1967 for the remainder of the year and Mr. Lawrence G. Leonard was elected Vice President Mr. Lawrence G. Leonard was appointed to represent the Town of Speedway on the Mass Transportation Authority advisory Board. Mr. W. D. Wood reported on a meeting with the Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce regarding the widening of 10th Street from Lyndhurst Drive west to the 1-465 Interchange. Bids were opened at 8:00 PM. on the Kist Street Relief Sewer project. Contract not awarded. All bids to be reviewed by Mr. Roger Pate and contract will be awarded at the next Regular Board meeting. Mr. Charles R. Cassidy was approved for hiring as a regular fireman to replace Mr. David L. Watson who recently resigned. The next regular meeting of the Board will be held on April 10, 1967 in the Town Hall auditorium at 7:30 PM.

Northwest Baptist Crusade - Northwest Baptist Church, located at 3470 High School Road begins an 8 day Family Gospel Crusade with Rev. George Long, Mr. Long is an Evangelist and youth leader from Elkhart, Indiana. The Special Meetings will run from Sunday thru Sunday, April 9th to 16th. The services will be held nightly at 7 o’clock, including Saturday evening. Rev. Long will be heard at all Sunday services of the church; 9:45 Sunday School - 10:45 Morning Service - and the Evening Service at 7:00 PM. Supervised Nurseries for babies and toddlers up to age two will be provided during all services.
