SCHOOL NEWS (Continued from page 1) The twelfth and final week of the elementary basketball program has been completed. Team members of the Sparkplugs are: Mark Urban, Brad Silver, Mickey Trittipo, Tim Winings, Paul Walters, David Thomas, and Mike Mattis. The Globetrotters won first place in the sixth grade division. Team members of the Globetrotters are: Mike Pierson, Mike Estridge, Mike Wilson, Randy Cassaday, Bobby Tapscott, Greg Kelliher, Tim O’Donnell, Denny Blind, Mike Strout, Jeff Hindsley, and Mike Semich.
The Varsity Club sponsored the class basketball tourney held at the high school last week. The Juniors won the championship game by deafeating the Seniors 46-40. Other scores were: Juniors 54, Freshman 29 Seniors 42, Sophomores 29 Sophomores 48, Freshmen 30 (consolation game) Approximately twenty - five boys are currently participating in junior high wrestling under the supervision of Coach Richard Haug. Scores of their meets to date are: Fulton 53, Speedway 10 Carmel 51, Spedway 12 Speedway 51, Center Grove 11 Speedway 38, Greenwood 18 Speedway won three exciting games to win the Zionsville Sectional last wekend. The Sparkplugs defeated the Lebanon Tigers 61-60 intheir first game. Speedway and Zionsville went into an overtime in the semifinal game before Speedway won 52-48. The final game score was Speedway 56, Pike 54. Speedway will play Delphi in the Frankfort Regional.
LIBRARY NOTES: The Senior High School Library is open four late afternoons each week for the convenience of students and adults of Speedway. Hours are from 4:00 to 6:30 Monday through Thursday. Close at the second. The flowers will be dedicated by the Fidelity Circle. At 5:00 pm. there will be the third in the series of Lenten Vespers. This week we shall welcome to the Speedway Methodist Church the choir of the DePauw University under it conductor Mr. Joseph Flununerfelt. Associated with the DePauw Choir will be the Chancel Choir directed by Mr. Hal Meurer. Mrs. John Clark, soprano, will be the soloist. A warm invitation is extended to each and all of these Lenten events. There will be a meeting of the Stewardship & Finance Commission tonight (Thurs., March 2) at 7:30 pm. at the church. Monday, March 6 the Membership & Evangelism Commission will meet at 7:30 pm. for their monthly meeting. The Tuesday Bible Study & Prayer Group will meet March 7 at 1:15 pm. All ladies of the church are invited. Mrs. George Mercer will tell about her trip to Austria to see “The Passion Play” at the Woman’s Society General Meeting on March 7 at 7:30 pm. in the Chapel. Each Wednesday morning at 7:00 am. “Morning Moments” will be held for all Senior High members of the church. The “Little Red Door” Sewing Group will meet at 10:00 am. Thursday, March 9 in Room 113. The monthly meeting of the Social Concerns Commission will be held Thursday, March 9 at the church. At 10:00 am. each Saturday morning the Junior High Membership Class will meet for training. The WHO Sunday School Class will install their 1967-68 officers at their banquet Saturday, March 11, 7:00 pm. at Chapel Hill Methodist Church. The 1967-68 officers will be President-Larry Miles; Vice-President-Bill Kinsley; Secretary-Treasurer-Aline Hotz; Social Chairman-Bettye Pierce. Men—the Lenten Breakfast Saturday, March 4 will be at Faith Methodist Church featuring a speaker on Government.
