RUBEN ELECTS) CENTRAL REGION GOVERNOR OF AD AGENCY NETWORK Ruben Advertising Wins Top National Awards
Gary A. Ruben, president, Ruben Advertising Agency. Inc., Indianapolis, was elected Central Regional Governor of the National Federation of Advertising Agencies during the 1967 NFAA Annual Meeting, January 26-30 in Nassau, The Board of Governors is the policy making body of the National Federation of Advertising Agencies, a network of 35 major independent agencies located in key American and Canadian markets. Ruben Advertising is the exclusive Indiana agency in the network. The Ruben Agency was also honored in the 1967 NFAA Advertising Competition with top awards for three categories of campaigns created for agency
INDIANA HAIR DESIGN GUILD The Indiana Hair Design Guild ■will meet February 19, 20, 21, 1967, with Mr. Leo Siroonian of Worcester, Massachusetts, a s guest artist. The meeting will be held in the Marott Hotel Ballroom, Indianapolis. There will be a luncheon on Sunday. A social time is planned Sunday evening with husbands, wives or guests invited. Mr Siroonian is an Official Hair Fashion Committee member, a Past President of the Massachusetts Hairdressers and Cosmetologists Association, and owns an accredited beauty college. Members should bring mannequins, etc., and participate in the styling trends demonstrated by Mr. Siroonian.
CENTRAL GYM TO BE SCENE OF BASKETBALL "BATTLE OF SEXES" A “battle of the sexes” in Indi-ana-style basketball will unfold Friday, March 3, at 8 p.m. in the Indiana Central College gym when the All-American Red Heads meet the ICC male alumni. The Red Heads are a women’s team which tours the country annually. The girls range in height from 5 feet 7 inches to 6 feet 3 inches and play by men’s rules. Indiana Central’s Business Club is sponsoring the game. Tickets are being sold in advance and at the door by club members. The price is $1.50 and $1 for high school students and younger persons. Westside Young Republicans The Westside Young Republican Club will hold its monthly meeting on Tues, Feb. 28th at the Gateway West Community Room, 5816 W. 38th St. The time is 7:30 p.m. Guest speaker will be Republican County Chairman, L. Keith Bulen. Teenagers and adults are cordially invited to attend.

Elmar A Ruben, executive vice president, accepted “Awards of Excellence” for the agency’s print advertising campaign for Burger Chef Systems, Inc., in TV Guide; for a new TV commercial campaign in color for Derusto rust preventive paints manufactured by Master Bronze Powder Company, Chicago Heights, Illinois; and for the radio campaign for First Bank and Trust Company, Indianapolis. Inscribed “In recognition of adherence to the high standards which assure furtherance of advertising as a positive force for good in the American economy”, the awards were presented by NFAA President Earle Palmer Brown of Washington, D.C.

WATER COLOR DISPLAY An Open House at the Jewish Community Center, 6701 Hoover Road, will be held in honor of Mrs. Shirley De Long Sunday, Feb. 26, from 2 to 5 p.m. This is open to the public. An exhibit of watercolor paintings by Mrs. De Long will be displayed in the Center Adult Lounge through the month of March. Jack De Long, husband of the artist and Indiana regional director of the National Conference of Christians and Jews, will also appear at the open house to mark the observance of National Brotherhood Week. Mrs. De Long, an accomplished artist, has had her work purchased for exhibit in public buildings in lowa and Mississippi. She is also the recipient of many private commissions.
ARTIST RECEPTION Invitations have been sent to Piano Teachers and Indiana State Symphony Society Women’s Committee Boards throughout the State of Indiana to attend a reception at the Wilking Music Company Auditorium, 120 N. Pennsylvania, Friday morning, February 24th, 10:30 A.M. for Mr. Jerome Lowenthal, Steinway Artist, scheduled to appear with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra this week-end, February 25th and 26th. In addition to Mr. Lowenthal, special guests will include Mrs. Izler Solomon, wife of the Symphony Conductor, Mrs. Robert L. Rock, wife of Indiana’s Lieutenant Governor, Mrs. John J. Barton, wife of the Indianapolis Mayor, Mrs. Warren C. Moberly, President of the Women’s Symphony Committee Executive Board, Mrs. Renato Pacini, wife of the Assistant Symphony Conductor, Mrs. Edward S. Rhea, President of the Indiana Piano Teachers Guild, Mrs. Leander N. Goodwin, President of the Indianapolis Piano Teachers Association, Mr. and Mrs. Hubert N. Scott, is General Manager of the Symphony, Miss Sue Staton and Mr. Nicholas P. Jones.

The black and ivory of the piano keyboard will provide the dominate mood for the decorations which will be reflected throughout the Wilking Auditorium with the elegance of Ivory damask sofas, chairs and black accents! This theme will be repeated in the black and white piano keyboard name tags which will be presented to each guest on arrival. ® Mrs. Kenneth D. Threes and Pre-School are studying “You and I” helping children know how the church helps people. Primary (grades 1,2, 3) are considering the Christian outreach of a family through the study of “No Biscuits At All’” Juniors (grades 4,5, 6) are examining Christian attitudes toward poverty through study of the book ‘White Elephant for Sale”. Mrs. Martha Nelson is leading Jr. High boys and girls in exploring how they make decisions and what their response will be to Jesus’ call to discipleship. Sr. High young people will be studying “The Draft - and Related Problems”. Col. Wayne E. Rhodes of the Selective Service will present the variety of options, including military service, military non-combatant, peace corps, and conscientious objection. Dr. Calvin Porter will continue with his class, in Room B-l, in the study of the Gospel of John. The Reverend Charles A. Frazee will be with us a second time, discussing the Roman Catholic Church, the recent Vatican H, and “The Household of Faith.” This class meets in the Bethany Room. The Reverend Canon Carthy will continue with the discussion of social and technological changes in our life today, and Christian perspectives and responses to these situations. This group will meet in the sanctuary. Classes are from 5:30 to 6:20; snack supper (35 cents) at 6:30, and program in the sanctuary from 7 to 7:30. This Sunday evening we are privileged to have the Crusader Bell Choir of the Northwood Christian Church, presenting “Music for Handbells.” The chancel flowers will be given by Mr. and Mrs. Louis Rumple, Cindy and Kay, in loving memory of Mr. Max Rumple. Choir rehearsals will continue on their regular schedule. C. W. F. Bible Study Group win meet in Room 206 on Monday morning, from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. Sr. High C.Y.F. Executive Committee will meet Monday evening, February 27th, at 7:30 pan., in the Bethany Room. Sewing for the 1967 Fall Festival will continue at the Dotlich Farm on Wednesdays. Other items needed for their projects include 46 oz. juice cans, cigar boxes, pieces of upholstery, and all kinds of buttons. The Board of Directors of Speedway Weekday Religoius Education, Inc. will meet inR oom B-l, on Tuesday, February 28th, at 8:00 pm. Leah Circle will meet Wednesday, March Ist, 1:00 pan. with Mrs. Genevieve North, 1808 Christopher Lane. A book review will be given by Mrs. Esther McKitrick. Ruth Circle will also meet Wednesday, March Ist, 1:00 pan. with Mrs. Mary Watson, 6043 Hickorywood. The program “Money - or Lack of It” will be given by Mrs. Mary Watson. Membership Instruction Classes will continue on Saturday, March 4th, from 10:00 to 11:00 aan. Boys and girls from 10 to 14 will meet with Dr. Montgomery in the 6th grade room; older youth with Rev. John Andrae in the Bethany Room. Want to help our refugee group of ten? Relatives of Ramiro Campins have just recently arrived from Cuba. At 5:00 pm. there will be the second in the series of Lenten Vespers and this week it will be a program of Lenten music to be given by the Speedway Methodist Church Chancel Choir under its director Hal Meurer, the Crusader Choir directed by Mrs. Robert Wise and the Carol Choir directed by Mrs. John Clark. A Ladies Trio consisting of Mrs. Maurice Rorick, Mrs. John Clark, and Mrs. Robert Wise will sing at this Vesper Service. Mr. Robert Foltz, tenor will be the soloist. The Junior High M.YJ. will meet Sunday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. for an outing. Please meet at the church. The Senior High MYF. will meet at their usual time of 6:00 pm. Sunday evening. INTERNATIONAL FRIENDSHIP DINNER Seventy Girl Scouts and Leaders had a great dinner and program February 20, 1967 held in the lovely Youth Building, St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church, Speedway, 6:30 P.M. 8:30 PM. Senior Troop 656 was hostess to Cadette Troops 219 and 567. Each girl prepared a covered dish and recipe of a foreign country and several dressed in costume of a foreign country. Senior Troop 656 presented • “Soft Shoe” dance which was enjoyed by everyone. The special guest speakers, Mrs. Fionneulla Walsh, Ireland and Prema Subramaniam, India, shared customs of their countries and how teenager of their countries compare to our teenagers. Everyone surely enjoyed their visit and perhaps dream of visiting their country in the future.
