Speedway Residents Serve On Krannert Board Of Managers Richard Muir, 5562 Hickorywood Drive, was elected Chairman of the Krannert Family Y.M.C.A. Board of Managers for the year 1967 and to the Metropolitan YMCA Board of Directors. Mr. Muir is with American Fletcher Bank and Trust. Other Speedway residents serving on the Krannert YMCA Board of Managers are: John Bryant, 2731 Vinewood Drive, who also serves on the Building Committee and Paul Burkley, 2102 N. CREAMER JOINS UNDE John E. Creamer has joined Union Carbide Corporation’s Electronics Division in Crystal Products Research and Development Laboratory at Speedway. According to Dr. Fedia Charvat, Manager of the activity, Mr. Creamer’s efforts will be concentrated primarily on a new R and D program aimed at the

growth of single crystals of sapphire in special shapes, and also on the further development of emerald for both gem and electronics applications. Both programs are under the direction of Dr. Howard M. Dess, Development Supervisor. Mr. Creamer is a native of New Haven, Connecticut and received his B.A. (Geology) from the University of Connecticut. He served in the U. S. Army for the past three years as a physical scientist at the Cold Regions Research and Engineering Laboratory at Hanover, New Hampshire. He coauthored a paper on the results of this work.

Barbara Frey. Mitch Feucht, Todd Conover, David Kreie, and Diana Ray also won Third Division placement in competition. Tom Haynes won first place in Boys’ Extemporaneous and Patty Leonard won first place in Girls* Extemporaneous at the Lafayette Jeff speech contest held last Saturday. Second place in Boys Extemp, went to Dudley Burdge; Diane Clark placed third and Diane Hoagland fifth in Girls Extemp. In Humorous Interpretation Linda Hackett was awarded second and Ronnie Stewart, third. In sub-varsity Humorous Interpretation Peggy Chambers Placed second. Fourth place winners were Joyce DeWitt in Oratory and Donna Tyler in Drama and subvarsity oratory. Speedway ranked sixth in team standings of the thirty-five schools participating. O’Farrell will advance to the Regional on February 11. Dick Wraight, Greg Silver, Terry Sarbinoff, and Jim DeLisle are alternates after having placed second in their weight division. Other Individual honors went to Tom Frawford who placed third and to Terry Brush and Richard Morrison who placed fourth. The wrestling teams had ended their regular season by losing to Northwest teams. Scores were Northwest varsity 27, Speedway 17, and Northwest reserves 28, Speedway 11.
In a swim meet held last weekend, Lawrence Central and Speedway won in their respective divisions. Eight schools were entered in the meet and divsiions were determined by school enrollment. Speedway won a dual meet with Bloomington University School by a 49-46 score. In basketball games played the past week, Speedway varsity won their games with Decatur Central and Arlington by scores of 76-56 and 66-62. respectively. The reserve team lost to Decatur Central 45-36 and to Arlington 60-43. Northview freshmen defeated Speedway by a 54-46 score; Speedway Bth grade won over Beech Grove 55-43, and Speedway 7th grade defeated Beech Grove 45-35. Speedway 7th grade was host to an invitational basketball tourney last Saturday and won by defeating Franklin Central in the final game 49-29. Other game scores were: Franklin Central 22 Lincoln (Pike) 21 Speedway 50 Carmel 35 Lincoln 41 Carmel 21 (consolation game)
