Speedway speech team placed fifth among thirty schools participating in a speech festival at Peru last Saturday. In dramatic interpretation, Donna Troutman placed second and Pam Wegener third; in radio announcing, Jim Seitz placed second and Earl Woodard third; and Preston Sinks was awarded fifth place in humorous interpretation. Speedway won the Mid-State Conference Wrestling Tourney held at Decatur Central last Saturday. Decatur Central was second with Brownsburg and Greenwood tier for third place. Individual winners from Speedway were Greg Silver, John O’Farrell, Terry Sarbinoff, Dick Wraight, and Jim DeLisle. In other wrestling competition recently, Speedway freshmen were defeated by Northview.

The Speedway varsity basketball team defeated Franklin Central by a score of 70-45 in the loser’s gym last Friday night. On Saturday night, Speedway was host to Washington and lost by a score of 84-70. Speedway reserves lost to Franklin Central, 32-27, and won over Washington 51-50. Earlier last week Fulton freshmen defeated Speedway 43-20. LIBRARY NOTES: The Senior High School Library is open four late afternoons each week for the convenience of students and adults of Speedway.
