Handicapped AideJ For College The Division of Vocational Rehabilitation of the Indiana Department of Public Instruction each year benefits thousands of handicapped persons in the state by assisting them with their lege education, on the job training, or one of many other ways. A Photographer In Our Midst Having been a portrait and wedding photographer since 1959 in Alexandria, David Steele has now moved to 2055 Gerrard Drive, in Speedway. In Alexandria he owned the “Steele’s Studio” until this Aug. when he moved here to finish schooling at the Dental school. Mr. Steele kept his equipment and would like to serve the people of Speedway in a photographic capacity. Col. Garrett To Speak To Speedway Lions Club

“NATO and the Air Defense of Europe” will be the topic of a talk presented to the Speedway Lions Club by Col. Wendell G. Garrett, on Wednesday, December 14 at 6:20 p.m. in the Linde Air cafeteria. Col. Garrett, Vice President of Indianapolis Morris Plan and President of United Public Life Insurance Company, an affiliate of Morris Plan, was one of 14 U.S. Air Force Reserve Officers out of 2000 chosen to make a staff visit to North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) bases in Europe. Purpose of the tour was to evaluate our air defenses of NATO and bring the message back to the American people. The group covered 15,000 miles in 16 days and visited 16 NATO bases. CoL Garrett served as Lt. CoL in the Indiana Air National Guard, Commander in the 181st Combat Support Squadron, and as a Command Pilot. A graduate of Purdue University, he is married, his daughter is attending the University of Missouri, and his son a Cadet in the United States Military Academy, West Point, N. Y.
Chili Supper The Mothers Club is sponsoring a chili supper at the Willaim Atkinsons Boys Club on December 10. This is our new Boys Club located 3131 West 16th Street. Job's Daughters To Install Mary Heed Miss Mary Reed, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William H. Reed, will be' installed as Honored Queen of Job’s Daughters Bethel No. 38 on Saturday night, December 10. The installation begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Speedway Masonic Temple. ADVENT CHORAL WORKS The Second Sunday Series, program of sacred music in the Speedway Christian Church on the second Sunday of each month, will begin December 11 at 8 p.m., when the Chnacel and Motet choirs of the church will sing three choral works for Advent. Hugo Distler’s “Advent Music”, contemporary music based on the old Lutheran hymn, “Come, Savior of the Gentiles”, will be sung by the Motet Choir and an ensemble from Chancel Choir, with accompaniment of flute, oboe, violin, cello and organ, and narration by Dr. Ray Montgomery. This will be followed by the short, brilliant “Christmas Cantata” for chorus, brass choir, and organ by the New England composer, Daniel Pinkbam. The third part of the concert will be Vivaldi’s “Gloria”. This grand baroque oratorio, comparable in style to Handel’s "Messiah”, will be sung by the Chancel Choir, accompanied by an orchestra from the Indianapolis Chamber Music Workshop, and assisted by Mrs. Harold Graham, soprano; Mrs. Arnold Gagen, mezzo-soprano; and Miss Patricia Pirtle, alto. Rev. Foster Hotchkiss will be organist and director. There will be a reception and art exhibit following the music. The church nurseries will be open for the care of small children.
Holy Land Program Scheduled For O.E.S. Meeting The regular stated meeting of Spedway Chapter 561 Order of the Eastern Star will be held in the Speedway Masonic Temple, 1620 N. Lynhurst Drive, at 8 p.m. Tuesday, December 13. Junior Past Matron Margaret Friedman will serve as chairman of refreshments. Past Matron Vye Parke is serving as chairman of decorations this year. A short twenty or twenty-five minute program featuring pictures taken by Larry Bilbee last year in the Holy Land and a story by Worthy Matron Nellie Bilbee will follow the close of the meeting. All are welcome to attend the program. December 20 has been set by Worthy Matron Nellie and Worthy Patron Floyd Bilbee as the date for the 1966-67 Officers’ Christmas Party.

The Speedway Lions Club will present its 3rd program of its “TRAVEL AND ADVENTURE SERIES” on Fri., Dec. 9 evening, in the Speedway High auditorium at 8 P.M. ROBERT BROUWER is a resident of Grand Rapids, Michigan, where he has been in the electrical contracting business for several years. Many years ago he embarked on the hobby of photography and his first slides were enjoyed by friends and neighbors. Many of his slides won national contests and received acclaim from all who saw them. The encouragement of friends and experts prompted him to produce a finished slide program.

One Speedway student is among Indiana University Air Force ROTC cadets receiving promotions this semester at I.U. Promotions were based on outstanding leadership capabilities, academic achievement, motivation, and proficiency and competence in assigned duties. The student from Speedway is: Steve R. Lewis, 5801 W. 16th St., advancing to the rank of cadet airman first class. After a year of intensive pilot training, Lt. Frank Sherman will graduate from Laughlin Air Force Base at Del Rio, Texas, according to word recevied by Mrs. Vanard Sherman. Lt. Sherman is a member of S.AC. and was assigned to Wright Patterson Air Force Base at Dayton, Ohio. Lt. and Mrs. Sherman and son Christopher will be in Speedway after Dec. 15th and spend the holidays with the Dr. Milton Tepfer and V. Sherman families.

Hamer-Baugh Miss Shirley Louise Baugh and David Russell Hamer were married yesterday in Forest Park Methodist Church at Fort Wayne. Parents of the bride are Mr. and Mrs. Douglas S. Baugh of Fort Wayne. The bridegroom’s parents are Mr. and Mrs. Edwin W. Hamer, 4964 West 12th Street, Speedway. The bride’s satin gown featured a scoop neckline and chapel train with accents of lace and jewels. She wore a lace mantilla and carried gardenias and stephanotis with ivy streamers. Miss Becky Baugh was maid of honor. Bridesmaids were the Misses Patricia Wirick of Fort Wayne; Trudy Thrasher of Carmel and Joyce and Donna Hamer, both of Speedway. They wore champagne and emerald crepe gowns with velvet accents and matching veils. They carried bittersweet bronze and yellow chrysanthemums. David M Schein of Speedway was best man. Ushers were James Schmidt of Lafayette; Todd Hodgdon of Frankfurt, Germany; Michael Baugh of Fort Wayne and David Bramlett After a northern trip the couple will live at'Bloomington. Both the bride and bridegroom attend Indiana University. Miss Baugh is a member of Alpha Chi Omega Sorority and Mr. Hamer is a member of Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity. He will enter I.U. School of Law following graduation.
