t MURDER! MURDER! The one fear that everyone feels at sometime is that of murder. The coldness that passes through the mind of the assasin as he commits the fatal crime is one that few people can understand. The compassion that is absent from the disturbed lives of those who have been or win be punished for their act of violence. All the emotions felt by the families of victims and the families of the accused are far beyond the reach of most of us. Now each of us can experience the mystery of hate and revenge. The most powerful drama ever presented is making ready to unfold upon the Speedway High School stage. The mere name of “Medea” will send cold chills through the bodies of all who see the cruelty of a woman who hates. After deserting her father and murdtring her brother, Medea marries Jason and has two sons by him. But Medea’s life is shattered when Jason leaves her to marry the rich young daughter of Creon. Medea’s revenge is carried out with such spite and perfection that even the audience will find themselves engrossed in the evil deeds of the young sorceress. Cast in the challenging roles of Medea and Jason are Joyce DeWitt and Joe Yanoska. Aiding in the suspense and drama of the play are Donna Troutman, Jim Seitz, Pam Wegener, Chris McMahon, Nikki Comsa, Lynn Anderson, Claudia Ryden, Greg Eaton, Karin Kyle, Marla McCormick, Daryll Hood, Mike Potter, and Terry Brush. The play will be presented on November 18 and 19. Tickets are on sale now by writing to Mr. Don Johnson, Speedway High School.

Church Young People To Ask Your Aid For U.N.I.GE.F., Oct. 30 This coming Sunday evening, October 30, between 4:00-6:00 p.m., young people from the St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church, the Speedway Methodist Church, and the Speedway Christian Church, will be knocking on the doors of our communty. Will you thoughtfully help U.N.I.CJLF. (the United Nations Children’s Fund) in the effort to improve the health of children in need? U-NJ.C.ET. aids programs against disease, against hunger and malnutrition, against ignorance, against the breakdown of family life, and against disaster. U.NJ.C.E.F. is supported from voluntary contributions of governments and individuals. Governments being aided more-than-match U.N.I.C.E.F. funds and agree that the aid will go to children without regard to their color, creed, nationality, or political belief. Once UJJJ.C.E.F.*s aid is completed, each government continues the project on a permanant basis. It is a matter of urgent service to those in great need, and from a Christian point of view, this over-rides other considerations. Thank you for your consideration and cooperation in this effort. MBHIS- ■ ;< ® " " W" ' Ip^' i
On Sat. Oct. 29 evening the Speedway Lions Club will present its 2nd program of its “TRAVEL AND ADVENTURE SERIES” at 8 pm. at the Speedway High School auditorium. ALFRED LESTJE, a native of South Africa, was born in Johannesburg. He was in the South African Air Force and also spent years prospecting and drilling for various companies. In 1952, while living in the Kafui Game Reserve, he bought his first camera and soon afterwards was asked by a British television producer to work with him on a film of African birdlife. Later a safari was organized for the purpose of this film. On this safari a young nurse begged to go on the trip and was finally allowed to do so. After this safari was over, young Dianne became Mrs. Alfred Leslie. He and Dianne first met in 1957 when Dianne, then a trainee nurse from Durban, was holidaying at Livingstone. They were married on a friend’s farm in the Transvaal. This is an extraordinary couple. RIVERS OF FIRE AND ICE is filmed in all-color with the animals and primitive natives as the “stars”. It had a 67-week run in Johannesburg. Most of the 25,000-mile safari was off the beaten track. “In six months we didn’t see more than four white people,” said Alfred. Shinning up a tree to escape a charging buffalo or rhinoceros was not unusual for young Dianne Leslie during this 2% year safari. “I often found when the danger was over that the tree I was up was covered with thorns,” she said “It was much harder getting down”. They travelled in a big lorry, and at night slept in tents.

Around camp the natives always built a barricade as protection. “The old story of lighting fires to keep lions and other animals away is nonsense,” Alfred said. “Lions are inquisitive and curious creatures, but not naturally maneating. You should never turn your back or run away if a lion bails you up. Just look him in the eye, don’t look scared, and cautiously edge away”. Dianne was chief cook and bottle-washer on the safari, as well as looking after the young animate caught for zoos and treating sick natives who came to the camps in droves. With Alfred, she made pets of some of the young animals before delivering them to an agent who air-freighted them to America.
