Three Speedway High School seniors, Michael Jaimet, Donna Tyler, and Nancy Zeph, have been named Semifinalists in the 196667 Merit Scholarship competition. This test of educational development was given last spring in more than 17,500 high schools in the United States. Each Semifinalist will take another test and rrom that group Finalists will be named. Finalists will be eligible for a Merit Scholarship which in some cases will be a complete four year scholarship to the college of his choice. More than 13,000 students have won Merit Scholarships representing approximately S4B million in financial assistance since the program was established in 1955.

Letters of Comjsendation for their performance on the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test given last spring have been awarded to ten Speedway High School seniors. Those scoring in the top 2% of the 38,000 students who participated are Alan Davis, Charles Engel, Reesa Evans, Naomi Hocker, Steve Kirchhoff, Steve Riser, Michael Sash, Doug Small, Robert Smith, and Earl Woodard. Speedway varsity football team opened their season with a 7-0 win over Decatur Central. The Sparkplugs have since added two more wins to their record by defeating Brownsburg 38-6, and Lawrence Central 21-13. Speedway reserves won their game with Danville by 13-6 score. In freshman football final scores have been: Speedway 20, Greenwood 6; Speedway 13, Plainfield 6. Speedway’s Bth grade football team won games with Plainfield, 34-0, and Beech Grove 20-0. Speedway placed second in the cross country meet held at Warren Central, second in the invitational meet at Ben Davis, and won a dual meet with Northwest since the 1966 season began. In other meets with Northwest Speedway reserves won 20-35, and Northwest freshmen won 26-29. LIBRARY NOTES: The Senior High School Library is open four late afternoons each week for the convenience of students and adults of Speedway.

allowed for such minors to reach their respective homes; PROVIDED, that the above provision shall not apply if any such minor is accompanied by his or her parents or guardian, or by any other person having the legal custody and control of such minor; or if he or she be then engaged in the performance of a lawful errand, or employment, or duty authorized and directed by such parents, guardian, or other person having the legal care and custody of any such minor, and if such minor has in his or her possession a- written permit therefore from any such person, or employer, showing the reason and necessity to be upon or in said street, alley, park or other public place, during the night time between said specified hours.

Section 2. Police to Apprehend Minors. Each member of the police force, while on duty, is hereby directed to question any such minors suspected of violating this Ordinance and to take into custody any minor person so found to be violating same and thereupon to take said minor person to his or her place of residence and thereupon determine the name of the parent, guardian, or other person having the legal custody of, or the employer of said minor person. Section 3. Penalty. Any parent, guardian, or other person having the legal care and custody of such minor or minors, who shall violate the provisions of this Ordinance shall be liable for a fine in any swpn not less than One dollar ($1.00), nor more than Ten Dollars ($10.00) for each offense. Eight new Bobcats were inducted and presented pins. They are eric Blossom, Mark Chapman, Jeff Fuller, Donny Kay, Peter Mattis, Brad Melvin, Keith Owen, and Ken Williams. Awards made for achievements during the past months consisted of a Lion badge for Vic Stewart; a one-year service star for Nathan Huber; a no. 4 attendance award for Lee Faulkner; a no. 3 attendance award for Tim Lockhart; no. 2 attendance award for Nathan Huber and Dan McCauley, and a no. 1 attendance award for Brian Anacker. An announcement was made of the School night for Scouting, to be held this evening, at 7:30 p.m, at the Newby School. All parents having boys eligible to become scouts are urged to attend this meeting. Pack leaders will be present to explain scouting, answer any questions and sign up any new boys and parents.

Yentes Art Displayed Flora Yentes is being presented in a one man showing of her paintings at the Student Union Building of the Indiana Univerctiy Medical Center on West Michigan Street Mrs. Yentes is a member of the Herron Art Association, Brown County Art Gallery, Hoosier Salon, Art Center Artists Giuld and The Federation of Art Clubs. Her work has been exhibited and awards received in the State Fair professionally, Senator Birch Bayh’s offiee in Washington D. C. and in many other locations of repute. Her work has been purchased for a number of private collections and is well known lor its variety of subject and style and clear glowing color. The exhibition will be on dis* play through the month of Sep* tember.
