INDIANA DRIVERS’ TEST (Continued from Page 1) opportunity for Indiana residents “to judge for themselves” their understanding of state traffic laws and their ability to operate vehicles trader Indiana traffic regulations and driving conditions. The official test and other data will be produced by the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles. The Indiana State Police will Eissist in the program production by using police helicopters and patrol vehicles to film potential accident situations. Other assisting agencies will include: Indiana Traffic Safety Council, Indismapolis Traffic Safety Council, National Safety Council, and the Hoosier Motor Club. WISH-TV 8 news reporters Bob Glenn and Bill Aylward will administer the “Indiana Driver’s Test” on Wednesday, Aug. 31 at 8:30 pan. As an added service to viewers, the test will be given to four sample test groups before the television broadcast. The sample tests will be scored and the results will be reviewed during the broadcast so the viewers can check themselves.

Traffic Woes Shared A recent Nationsd Safety Council report shows that Indiana’s 1966 traffic woes are being shared to an even greater extent by its middle western neighbors. During the first six months of this year, the Hoosier traffic death rate was running 10 percent ahead of the 1965 figures. At the same time, Kentucky crash deaths were up 25 percent followed by Illinois with an 18 percent increase, Michigan 14 percent and Ohio with a 13 percent bulge. A numerical breakdown of fatalities for each state revealed that Illinois had 176 more deaths than last year followed by Ohio with 124; Michigan 120; Kentucky 93, Emd IndiEraa 69 dead over last year’s toll.

State Police Supt Robert A. O’Neal expressed belief that the worsening five-state traffic toll is a reflection of increased population, vehicle registration and the lack of adequate roads to carry the load. “Traffic congestion is rapidly making two-lane roads obsolete,” O’Neal said. “But we can’t rebuild every road into an expressway. We will continue to have congestion and with it will come more accidents.”
