PARK NEWS (Continued from Page 1) few openings left if you are interested. Peanut League will begin regural play this next week as teams are being formed now. We have an overflow at Meadowood with approximately 7580 boys, 6-7-8 years old. How many teams we will have is yet to be decided. At Leonard Park, we have had only 36-40 boys and need players here. Any boy not registered will be asked to go to Leonard Park to play. We still have T-shirts at Leonard. More have been ordered for the Meadowood players. Any boy wishing to register for either the basketball or Peanut baseball should see Mr. Crumley at once. Winners in the checkers tournament at the Leonard Park are: Div. I Steve Williams, Ist place; David Smith, 2nd place; and Craig Williams, 3rd place. Div. II Vic Stewart, Ist place; Dan Williams, 2nd place; and Dan Henderson, 3rd place. Div. HI Dan Niccum, Ist place; and Chuck Eodee, 2nd place. Winner of the checkers champion cup at Leonard Park was Dan Niccum.
Remaining tournaments are Chinese checkers, June 27; Croquet, July 11; Carroms, July 18; Shuffleboard, July 25; and chess, August 1. Field Day will be held July 6 at the Leonard Park. This summer an athletic program for girls has been started. Participation in team sports contributes to an increase in skill, cooperative attitude, and fun. Many girls involved in other summer activities are welcome for only a portion of the daily program or few days a week. The meeting time is 9:00-11:00 a.m., at Meadowood Park, Monday through Friday, under the direction of Mrs. Michael Thomas. A schedule for the week is posted each Monday on the Meadowood Park bulletin board. Activities include softball, kickball, volleyball, basketball, tennis, swimming and others. Swimming is an infrequent activity (about once every two weeks). A nonswimmer must bring a note from home permitting her to go to the Speedway High School pool where there are life guards and Mrs. Thomas will watch nonswimmers closely. Any girl is welcome to join our program. We would like to encourage 7th, Bth, and 9th grade girls to come and bring friends so there will be enough girls to separate into two groups of girls older and

We want to encourage girls to continue coming so we can extend the program throughout the summer and make this first summer girls’ program successful in order to be repeated next summer. Don’t forget to register Monday, June 27 by 9:30 a.m. for Chinese checkers tournament. Tournaments will be held at both parks.
