Lee Burton Speaks To 500 Optimist Club Mr. Lee Burton, Director of Parks and Recreation for Indianapolis was a recent speaker at the weekly 500 Optimist Club at the Speedway Motel. Mr. Burton gave a very informative talk on the problems of City Park maintenance and development It was pointed out that many of the problems are the result of an inadequate amount of personnel. This in turn is caused by the less than competitive going wage at which present park employees must work. Due to higher wages paid by business and industry, it is a constant problem to hire and keep adequate personnel as are required to keep our parks neat and attractive. Mr. Burton also stated he hopes to open about 300 acres of the new Eagle Creek area with picnic tables and other facilities. As the park department is able, additional areas of this park will be opened. Due to its dose proximity to Speedway this is of great interest to Speedway residents. Mr. Burton also mentioned that in the coming year he hopes to have every city park equipped again with drinking water facilities and adequate and clean toilet facilities. . J, On July 13, the Optimist Club will be host to Mr. Don Watson, director of the Indianapolis Zoo.
