Robert J. Cassaday Robert J. Cassaday has been named manager of Firestone’s Racing Division office in Speedway City, Ind. In his new duties, Cassaday, a 10-year Firestone employee at the Racing Division headquarters in Speedway City, will be in charge of operations at the race tire distribution center. Born in Battleground, Ind., Cassaday was graduated from Speedway High School. Following service in the Marine Corps in World War II and in the Korean War, he returned to Speedway City where he was a member of the police department before joining Firestone in 1956. Cassaday, 38, and his wife, Jean, have a son and a daughter. The family lives at 6104 Hollister Dr., Speedway City.

Worthy Matron Nellie Bilbee and Worthy Patron Floyd Bilbee have designated the June 14 Stated Meeting of Speedway Chapter No. 561, Order of the Eastern Star, as “Honoring Fathers.” Father’s Day is officially June 19. Speedway Chapter’s Official Inspection by the Worthy Grand Matron will be held Friday, June 17 in the Masonic Temple at 525 North Illinois Street, Indianapolis, with dinner at 6:00 p.m. Other participating Chapters will be Queen Esther and Nettie Ransford. Reservations for dinner should be made with Secretary Janette Spencer on or before June 13. Award of Gold presentation and baby dedication are scheduled for 7:15 followed at 7:30 p.m. by the Inspection meeting.

Rev. J. F. Grottick Rev. James F. Grottick has been appointed to be senior minister of the Speedway Methodist Church. Rev. and Mrs. Grottick have two daughters, Jill, 18 and (Continued on Page 4) LEM TROTTER Services for Lem H. Trotter, 96, were at 2:30 p.m. Thursday in Conkle Speedway Funeral Home. Trotter, who bought the land and helped develop the race course at the site of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, died Monday in Memorial Clinic. Owner and operator of Lem H. Trotter Real Estate and Insurance Co. and the Speedway Realty Co., he lived at 1531 Allison in Speedway. Both firms are located at 15 E. Washington in the State Life Building where he first opened offices in 1902.
Trotter acquired the 320 acres where the race track was built by Carl Fisher, James Allison, Arthur C. Newby and Frank Wheeler in 1908 at a cost of S2OO an acre. With Fisher, Trotter operated the Prest-O-Lite Co. Trotter, who said he always was too busy to attend the races, organized the Speedway Realty Co. with property that became the town of Speedway in 1912. Development of the area hiked land prices to SI,OOO an acre. The Speedway real estate man was born in 1870 in Hendricks County and moved to Marion County in 1888 near what was to become the site of the Speedway. Survivor—widow Cleo.
INDIANA READING CLUB This year the Summer Recreational Reading Club at the Senior High School Library will begin on June 13 and run until August 12 nine weeks. Registration will be the week of June 13-17. The Club is open to all boys and girls who live in Speedway, grades 1 through 12. Summer hours are: 9:00 to 6:30 Monday through Thursday; 9:00 to 4:00 Friday. Those who join the Indiana Reading Club and read as many as 15 books during the summer — books on own reading level and not read before will receive a certificate during the last week, August 8-12. Bicycle riders are asked to park in the blacktop area north of the building, just off 25th Street. The middle entrance on the north side of the building is nearest the Library.

Dine-Scott Mr. and Mrs. Clarence M. Dine, 1653 N. Lyndhurst Drive, announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Beverly Ann, to Raymond D. Scott. Templin arrived home Sunday from San Francisco, California where they attended the wedding of their son, Bob to Janice Marie Wright, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Wright, 4520 Ulloa Street, San Francisco, California. The ceremony took place at Saint Gabriel’s Church, Sunday, May 29th, 1966 at 3:00 pan. The reception was held at the Casa de la Vista on Treasure Island with a sit-down dinner for 192 people. After a trip to Lake Tahoe the couple’s at-home address will be 3626 Taraval Street, San Francisco, California. Bob, a graduate of Speedway High School in 1955 and Wabash College in 1962, spent three years on the U.S.S. Coral Sea and is now employed by the Pacific Telephone Co. as a customer service consultant

KENNETH H. WENZ Funeral services for Kenneth H. Wenz, 63, Madeira Beach, Florida, were held Wednesday afternoon in the mausoleum at Crown Hill Cemetery. Mr. Wenz died at the hospital in Florida Saturday morning. He was a resident of Speedway for about 37 years. He was a charter member of Speedway Masonic Lodge No. 729, Scottish Rite, and Murat Shrine and Speedway Eastern Star No. 561. Survivors include the widow, Mrs. Mildred Wenz; son Kenneth E. Wenz; mother, Mrs. Clara M. Wenz; brothers George of Speedway and Elmer G. of Clearwater, Florida and three grandchildren of Monticello, Indiana, Denny, Benny and Jenny.
