WINS PIANO AUDITION
michael McDonald Michael McDonald, a senior at Speedway High School was winner of the Indiana Music Teachers Piano Auditions held in March. This contest is sponsored annually by the Indiana Music Teachers Association for outstanding students of piano, voice and strings. The winners are invited to play at the annual State Convention of the Music Teachers. This convention will be helld at Indiana State University, Terre Haute, Indiana July 10-12. Winners of the state auditions are eligible to participate in the National Music Teachers Auditions which are held biennially. Michael is 17, and has studied piano eleven years, the first eight years he was a pupil of his mother and is now studying with Mrs. DaS at Butler University. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. William McDonald. He plans to major in piano when he enters Anderson College in September.

"LI'L ABNER" TO BE PRESENTED The famous and colorful characters of Dogpatch, U.S.A will be coming to Speedway, when the Broadway musical comedy hit “Li-1 Abner” opens May 12, 13, 14 at the Speedway High School Aditorium. The tuneful hit based on Al Capp’s famous cartoon characters, recounts the adventures of the citizens of Dogpatch when the word is sent down from Washington that they must all evacuate their mountain homes. It seems that the gambling enterprises in Las Vegas have been distrubed by the atom bomb testings in Nevada, and so, to preserve that (Continued on Page 4)
PERSONALS Robert L. Davison, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert H. Davison, 2101 Fisher, has enlisted in the United States Air Force. Sgt. Burford, local Air Force recruiter said Robert will take four weeks basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas and from there will be asigned to specialized technical training in the adminisrative field which he chose before enlisting. Robert has been employed at Wasson’s Eagledale store since graduation. Robert is a graduate of Speedway High School, Class of 1963. Mary Featheringill, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Featheringill, will attend the initiation ceremony for membership into Kappa Delta* Pi, an education honorary, on May 11. Qualifications for membership require a “B” average after three years of collelge. Mary is now a Junior at Ball State University. Miss Feathingill 'graduated from Speedway High School in 1963.

Allen Hunter, well known Marion County community leader has announced his candidacy for Clerk of Marion County on the GOP Ticket as a Republican Action Committee candidate. Mr. Hunter s a widower with two children and two grandchildren. In 1934 he was elected precinct committeeman. In 1960 he was Ward Chairman and Treasurer of Marion County from 196064. He was Mayor of Beech Grove from 1943 to 1948 and again in 1952-56. Owned and operated Autommotive Parts Company in Beech Grove for 29 years.

Television Men To Train Apprentices in Federally Assisted Program

DICK GLASS Dick Glass, of G and M TV, 5302 W. 10th Street, Speedway, President of the National Electronic Associations, has been named Director of Training for the U.S. Labor Department/NEA sponsored OJT program. A grant of $29,809 was awarded to the National Electronic Associations, Inc., under the. Man-, power Development and Training Act, to promote the job training in the television and radio repair field for unemployment or under-’ employed persons between 18 and 30 years of age. Locally the Indianapolis Television Technicians Association, Inc., will act as the sponsor for the training in the Marion County and environs area. High school graduates and displaced persons interested in this type of work may contact the local Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training, 222 E. LOLLI-POP CONCERT The children’s Lolli-Pop Concert sponsored by the West group of the Women’s State Symphony Society will be held Saturday, April 23, 1966 in the Speedway Junior High School Gymnasium, 5151 W. 14th St., at 10 ajn. Miss Diane Elizabeth Fruth and Lester Martin Smith were married Saturday evening, April 2, in the Speedway Christian Church. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John H. Fruth, 1811 Cunningham Drive. The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Lester J. Smith, 4958 West 14th Street. Officiating ministers were Dr. Ray Montgomery and Rev. C. C. Fruth, grandfather of the bride. Miss Kay Lynne Frey was maid of honor, Robert Logue, brother of the groom was best man. Ushers were Robert Randolph and Richard Fruth. The bride attended Heron School of Art and was graduated from Central Business College. The bridegroom attended Purdue University regional campus. He now is attending Herron School of Art and is a senior at Butler University. He is a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity. They are now residing at 1612 Cord St.
Sex Education and Edu* cation For Family Living John Knox Presbyterian and St. Andrew’s Lutheran Churches are co-sponsoring a series of two sessions on Sex Education and Education for Family Living to be held Sunday afternoons, April 17 and April 24. They have secured the competent leadership of Mrs. Jan Davidson, assistant director of the Social Health Association of Indianapolis and Marion County. She has recently returned to this state after eight years in Arizona, where she worked with high school and university young people for five years before becoming Executive Director of the Planned Parenthood Center of Tucson. The Social Health Association, founded in 1943, promotes education for family living. Included in the first session on April 17, will be the showing of the film entitled “Human Reproduction”; and at the second session April 24, the film “Dance Little Children.” They deal with the general areas of human growth, venereal disease, and the social pressures and problems facing today’s youth. Mrs. Davidson will give the youth an opportunity to ask questions. The sessions will be held in Fellowship Hall at St. Andrew’s, at 3:00 pjn. Welcome to all high school youth of Speedway area.

MRS. CARYL ROBBINS Mrs. Caryl Robbins, 4905 W. 15th Street, Speedway, Indiana, is one of only six people selected to participate as a panelist at the national convention of Mutual of Omaha and United of Omaha field representatives. V. J. Skutt, chairman of the boards of the firms, said that Mrs. Robbins was selected because of her consistency high standards of performance as a field underwriter for the firms. Over 9,000 field underwriters represent Mutual of Omaha and United of Omaha in their international network of sales and service offices. Mrs. Robbins, a representative of the Rex D. Linkous agency of Indianapolis, Indiana, has been with the firms since 1964. The meetings are scheduled to be conducted from May 1 to May 6 in Honolulu, Hawaii.
