PEACE CORPS INTERVIEWS Meredith MacKusick of Washington, D. C., a representative of the national staff of the Peace Corps, will be in Indianapolis Friday, April 1, to interview people interested in joining the Peace Corps. Johnson will deliver the message on “The Peril of Security.” There will be Baptism and Reception of new members in both services. Considerable labor and expense is incurred each year to try to keep the school lawns beautiful At all schools there are adequate playground areas which can be used. It is hoped that all persons will help the school custodians in their efforts to maintain attractive lawns. Speedway placed fourth in the State Speech Tourney which ended last Saturday with representatives of 50 schools competing. Winning first place was New Haven, followed by Lafayette Jeff in second place, and Warren Central, third. Individual honors went to Joyce DeWitt who placed second in dramatics, and Jim Seitz who placed second in radio. Fifth place awards went to Ronnie Stewart in humorous interp. and Earl Woodard in radio. The speech team is coached by Mr. Don Johnson. At the Lions Club Winter Sports Banquet held last week the following awards were presented for basketball: Blase Sportsmanship Award, Kenny Craig; Rumple Foul Shot Award, Scott Neat; Hanna Scholastic Award, Mike Short; Most Rebounds Award, Charles Lavender; Most Improved Player Award, Charles Williams; Most Valuable Player Award, Scott Neat. In swimming the Most Improved Award went to Jim Muir, and the Most Distinguished Swimming Award went to Kenny King. In wrestling Denny Glidewell won the Most Valuable Wrestler Award and John O’Farrell won the Most Improved Wrestler Award. Miss Bledsoe is representing Meredity Hall and was a former Speedway Junior Miss. Catherine G. Kirby, 5049 W. 15th Street, Speedway, has been elected House Manager of Alpha Omicron Pi Social sorority at Purdue University.
Patti Hogan, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Mack C. Hogan, 1231 Nester, Speedway, portrayed a daughter of J. B. (Job) in Archibald MacLeish’s prizewinning play, that was the winter quarter dramatic production at David Lipscomb College, Nashville, Tenn. James H. Bunner, - Washington, Pa., senior, has the title role. After two performances on the campus that were praised as “a major artistic triumph” and “almost flawless” production by a Nashville metropolitan daily newspaper critic, the play waa taken on tour by Dr. Jerry Henderson, director, during the spring holidays. Callled home by the illness of her mother, Miss Hogan was unable to make the road trip' which included Chattanoga and Memphis, Tenn.; Murray, Ky.; and Huntsville and Florence, Ala.
