Stewart, director of * the world famous Varsity Glee Club of Purdue University, is one of the nation’s outstanding leaders in choral music. A brilliant director with an inspira- > tional touch that brings out the best in any vocal group, he also possesses a pleasing personality and a ready wit which makes him an audience favorite on any occasion. Since joining the Purdue staff in 1933, Mr. Stewart has been director of Purdue Musical Organizations a highly unique department since the University has neither a School of Music or a music curriculum carrying academic credit. Mr. Stewart operates on the philosophy that there is “no fun without music and no music without fun.” Dr. Stewart has endeavored to spread this enjoyment of good music to people of all ages in all walks of life through community, industrial, and church music groups in addition to his everexpanding activties on the campus. Lewis, 2231 Fisher Avenue. A program of hat making and showing of lovely hats was presented by Mrs. Wendell Reid, who makes and designs all her own hats and has been a milliner for several years. Our honored guests, Mrs. Wendell Reid and Miss Leah Flint, have both been on the Grand Council of Psi lota Xi and are Past Presidents. Delicious refreshments were served by the committee: Mrs. Roberts Schaeffer, chairman, Mrs. Paul Sawyers, Mrs. Wm. Betsill, Mrs. Donald Hedrick, Mrs. John Bainbridge and hostess, Mrs. J. B. Lewis. Kappa Kappa Kappa Epsilon Eta Chapter of Kappa Kappa Kappa celebrated its Fifteenth Anniversary with a dinner meeting at the Warren Hotel on March 22nd. Forty-seven charter, associate, and active members attended. Clarence Adolph Porter of Ben Davis High School was announced as the representative of Eplison Eta for the Kappa Kappa Kappa State Fine Arts Award Contest. A recent report on the Annual Hoosier Art Salon by Mrs. Robert Spitzer, Art Chairman, announced the acquisition of three more paintings for the Kappa Kappa Kapap Art Gallery at Nashville, Indiana. The next meeting will be April 26th at the First Bank and Trust. PERSONALS Michael C. Faulk, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Faulk, 5122 Crawfordsville Rd., has enlisted in the United States Air Force. Sgt. Burford, local Air Force recruiter said Michael will take four weeks basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas and from there will be assigned to specialized technical training in the administrative field which he chose prior to his enlistment. Michael has been in the Air Force delayed enlistment program since Decem(Continued on Page 4)

ROBERT DARLING Mr. Robert W. Darling, Super-visor-Facility & Safety at Linde’s Speedway Laboratories, celebrated his 25th anniversary with Linde Division on March 17. Mr. Darling received his Hamilton watch award and 25-Year Certificate in commemoration of the event from Mr. Ralph Gabarro, Manager of Administration at the Laboratories. An anniversary luncheon honoring Mr. Darling and his wife Laura was held on March 17 at the ‘soo’ Motel. A native of Motherwell, Scotland, Mr. Darling started to»work for Linde in 1941 at the Linde Division Tonawanda Laboratories in New York. Highly respected in the Safety field, Mr. Darling has been Safety Director at the Linde Labs since 1955. He and his family reside at 2205 North Auburn, Speedway. DeMolay Mother's Club The DeMolay Mother’s Club of the Speedway Chapter Order of DeMolay will have a stated meeting on Wednesday, April 6, 1966 at 7:30 p.m. The meeting will be at the Masonic Temple, 1620 N. GOODWILL EASTER SERVICES The public will participate with the handicapped in special Easter Services next week at the Goodwill Industries plant, 1635 W. Michigan St., and will be invited on special tours of the workshop for the handicapped. Two services will be open to the public. Maundy Thursday will be observed next Thursday, April 7, from 4 to 4:30 p.m. Dr. Howard Lytle, Goodwill’s executive secretary, will officiate and communion will be served. A special tour of the plant will be conducted following the Good Friday Service on April 8. The service will be from 2 to 3 pan. with the tour for the public immediately afterward. A tour will be available prior to the Maundy Thursday service for those who arrive at the Goodwill plant by 3:15 pm. TAXPAYERS URGED TO GET PROPERTY FORMS Marion County taxpayers who have not received personal property assessment forms in the mail should take their own steps to get the forms now, township assessors said yesterday. Most assessors have completed their mailing of assessment forms to taxpapers of record. Unlike previous years, forms are not being distributed door-to-door this year, because of a new law elminating the assessment on household goods. But the burden of filing the form still is on the taxpaper. Taxpayers still owe personal property taxes if they own motor vehicles, boats, airplanes, motors ore dogs. FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH ANNIVERSARY The First Baptist Church of Speedway, 4034 North High School Road, win be celebrating the first anniversary of its pastor, on the field, on April 3rd. Pastor Robert Diffee, moved to Indiana April, 1965, to pastor a mission work of the Indianapolis Baptist Temple, Rev. Greg Dixon, pastor. In May, the work was organized into a local independent New Testament Church. A large house on High School Road is temporary quarters and plans are to build a building in this Northwest corner of the city. The Church fellowships with Baptist Bible FeUowship International, Springfield, Missouri. It is missionary, premillennial and fundamental.
SPEEDWAY COOPERATIVE PRESCHOOL The success of the Northwest Cooperative Preschool has prompted the opening of another school to serve the Northwest community. The new school, to be known as the Speedway Cooperative Preschool, will meet at John Knox United Presbyterian Church, 3000 N. High School Rd. Registration for both schools are now being taken for the 1966-67 school year. Applications for Northwest Cooperative Preschool, which holds classes at Wesley Methodist Church, are being Aaken by Mrs. Charles Helman, 925-6688. Mrs. David Whinrey, 291-4030, will take applications for the Speedway School.
GIRL SCOUT NEWS Girl Scout Friendship Festival, May 6,7, 1966 commemorating the Indiana Sesquicentennial will be held in the Manufacturers Building, Indiana State Fairgrounds. The events will begin 6:00-10:00 p.m., Friday and continue 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 Saturday. WILLIAM H. PRATHER The manager of the recently opened AFNB Banking Center at 7210 Rockville Road is William H. Prather. Mr. Prather was born in Indianapolis and attended Cathedral grade school and high school. Upon his graduation from Cathedral in 1950, he joined American Fletcher National Bank and Trust Company as a member of the Bookkeeping staff. Additional training and several courses in banking-from the American Institute of Banking led
to his ultimate assignment to banking center management. In 1963, he was made manager of the AFNB Northwestern Banking Center at 1100 West 30th St. His considerable experience in all phases of banking made him a natural choice for the position at the new Rockville Road Banking Center. Residents and businessmen in the area are invited to visit the new banking center. Mr. Prather is prepared to discuss any and all banking needs.
MARTIN LUTHER MOVIE The two-hour, full length “Martin Luther” film made popular in the theaters throughout the nation six years ago, will be shown this Sunday evening at 5:00 p.m. at St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church, which is located adjacent to the Speedway Shopping Center. Indiana Central To Present Short Course A one-day course on Atomic Absorption Spectrometry will be held at Indiana Central College on April 21, 1966 from 8:30 aan. to 4:30 pan. The purpose of the course is to present to potential users of this type of instrument a critical evaluation of its theory, uses, range, accuracy and limitations. The instructor for the course will be Dr. Edward E. Pickett, professor of Agricultural Chemistry at the University of Missouri. For a number of years he has operated the Spectrographic Laboratory at the University doing analyses on biological and agricultural materials, chiefly to ascertain their biologically important mineral elements. The Industrial Relations Center of Indiana Central College and the Indiana Section, American Chemical Society are sponsoring this program. Additional inormation may be obtained by writing to Dr. R. DONNA ATKINSON ACHIEVES SWIM RECORD Donna Atkinson, swwwminv an exhibition 200-yard individual medley at last weekends State A.A.U. Semi-Final Championships, eclipsed the national time standard of 2:25.0 by quite a comfortable margin—going the distance in 2:22.9. This time is added to an unofficial clocking of 5:09.2 for the 400-yard individual medley. Miss Atkinson is now elerible to compete for Westwood in two events at the women’s national indoor championships at Bartlesville, Oklahoma. Donna is now the fastest girl swimmer in Speedway’s history, we hope that more will follow her example.
