Little League Baseball Meeting There will be a meeting of the Little League for the general election of officers on Sunday, March 27, 4:30 p.m. at the Speedway Town Hall. All interested persons are urged to attend. COLLEGE NIGHT Representatives from most colleges and universities in Indiana will participate in a College Night at Speedway High School March 30, 1966 at 7:00 p.m. to inform interested students and parents of the educational opportunities offered by their respective institutions. This meeting is open to all persons interested in recent educational trends, and should be especially informative to those parents of Junior Hgih age students as well as those of Senior High age. Included in the program will be a brief explanation of the military draft situation. The meeting will begin at 7 o’clock in the high school auditorium.

THE TOWN BOARD REPORTS By Ray L. Oeth, Clerk-Treasurer The Board of Town Trustees for the Civil Town of Speedway held their regular meeting on Monday evening March 14, 1966 in the Town Hall auditorium. A delegation of property owners on Georgetown Road appeared at this meeting to protest installation of Curbs and gutters on Georgetown Road at their expense when the road is widend. Mr. Wood, President of the Board asked for a vote of the property owners present to see how many wanted Curbs and Gutters installed. Only two voted in favor so Mr. Wood advised the persons in attendance that Curbs and Gutters would not be installed. The Board adopted a commemorative Resolution to Mr. Lem H. Ttotter at this meeting. The Board approved the purchase of two new Police Cars from Tom Baker Motors at a total (Continued on Page 4)
WESTWOOD NEWS Westwood Country Club will be holding the age group state championships March 26 and 27 and April 2 and 3. Approximately 600 swimmers from Indiana will be competing for state championship titles in 94 events. For this event Club facilities are closed. Swim team chairman, Mrs. Robert Hart. RED CROSS CLASSES Your P.T.A. Health and Safety mittee representative, or by callCommittee regrets to report there will be no Standard First Aid Course this Spring due to lack of enough response. This beginning course will be offered again in the Fall, so look for our notice. The Advanced Course will start next Wedensday, March 30, 7:30 pan. to 9:30 pan. in the Assembly Room of the Town Hall. You need your beginners certificate to take this course. The instructor, Mr. Ed O’Farrell, of the Speedway Rescue Squad, will include Civil Defense Training and demonstrations of the Rescue Squad Equipment in the eight-week period. Engagement Announced Mr. and Mrs. W. M. MacAbee, 5514 Hollister Drive, announce the engagement of their daughter, Alicia Aim, to John Martin Steffanni H. The prospectvie bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Steffanni, 5020 Ford Street. An April 30th wedding is planned in the Speedway Christian Church. Mr. Steffanni attended St. Petersburg College in Florida and Indiana University Extension. Thomas Hugh Byrd, Sr. Mr. Thomas Hugh Byrd, Sr., of Raleigh, North Carolina, father of Mrs. Ted Rosebrock and Dr. Thomas Byrd, Jr., died Tuesday, March 22nd while on a fishing trip in Tennessee. Mr. Byrd was a former employee of Allison Division of General Motors and EsterlineAngus Company. He was a resident of Speedway for several years. Other survivors include the widow and a sister, Mrs. Edna Cummings of Bradenton, Florida and five grandchildren. Burial was today in Raleigh, North Carolina.
SPEEDWAY ASSOCIATE TRI KAPPA NEWS The Speedway Associate Chapter of Kappa Kappa Kappa will meet in the home of Mrs. Bill J. Cook, 5841 W. 18th St., on Monday evening, March 28, at 7:45 o’clock. Members of the chapter attended a dinner at the Warren Hotel, March 22, at which Epsilon Eta Chapter of Tri Kappa celebrated its fifteenth anniversary. Theatregoers To See Action-Filled Drama This weekend the stage of Speedway High School becomes the scene of action in a fastmoving drama about the “younger generation.” Rebel Without a Cause," the spring production <?f Student, Theatre, opens a two night stand Friday at 8:00 p.m. The play concerns Jim Stark, a young boy whose family moves from one city to another to trouble whenever he has problems with the school, the law, and often teenagers. Jim becomes involved in the lives of several people in this new town, among them an emotionally disturbed boy and a young girl on the verge of dilinquency. The “gang” at schol does not accept Jim and troube ensues ending in tragedy. But out of it all Jim and the young girl find themselves, and through the tragedy Jim and his parents are brought to understand one another, and as the play ends there is gerat hope for a better future. CHARLES BROCKMAN Charles C. Brockman, 62, 1729 Allison, widely known throughout the Midwest as a fisherman, died Tuesday, March 15, of a heart attack ih his home. He was the father of Charles T. Brockman, sportscaster for WLW-I who handles ABC’s Wide World of Sports program. For 35 years, Brockman was a fishing tackle manufacturer’s representative, and was a champion caster years ago. As a boy, Brockman was active in Boy Scouts, and served as chairman of various scouting committees. He also was chairman of of the camp committee of Camp Dellwood/ Girl Scout camp. Brockman was a graduate of Shortridge High School and attended Butler University where he played football. He was a member of Speedway Christian Church. Services were at 10 a.m. Friday in the Farley Speedway Funeral Home. Other survivors—widow, Dorothy; daughters, Mrs. James Krupa and Mrs. Eugene Axelrod.
Women of the Moose Enrollment The Women of the Moose, Indianapolis Chapter No. 11, Star Recorders Special Enrollment will be held on Sunday, March 27th, 1:30 p.m. at the Moose Lodge No. 17, 135 N. Delaware Street. All Star Recorders have been invited as special guests. Topics to be discussed will be Chapter Year, Executive Committee Minutes, Chairman Instructions for Chapter Procedure and the Duties of the Recorder. The special guests have ben invited to lead these discussions. All sponsors who have candidates who cannot be enrolled on Thursday night, this is your opportunity to have them enrolled. Dammann-Hollinden Mr. and Mrs. Edward Dammann of Terre Haute, announce the engagement of their daughter, Mary Catherine, 4968 W. 15th St, Speedway, to Lee Hollinden, son of Mrs. Edward Mollinden and the late Edward Hollinden. The Hollindensare former residents of Ferdinand. Mr. Hollinden attended Texas Tech College and is now with the firm of Reid-Quebe-Thompson and Associates, Inc., Indianapolis. Miss Dammann is employed at Allisons. The couple plan a July 2nd wedding at St Christopher's Catholic Church in Speedway.
PERSONALS Mabel Keas, 5845 W. 30th St, Speedway, left on March 19 for a year's study at the University of San Marcos in Lima, Peru, as part of Indiana University’s Junior Year in Peru program. The program, now in its seventh year, provides study for sophomore and junior students with a special interest in Latin America. Fifteen collegians are enrolled this year; seven from 1.U., and eight from other colleges and universities across the country. Students were selected on the basis of academic records, as well as on ability to understand spoken Spanish. All classes at San Marcos will be taught in Spanish. Each student will earn 30 hours of college credit Miss Keas is an I.U. junior, majoring in government.
Ronald McCammon, son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul McCammon, 5863 Speedway Dr., has enlisted in the United States Air Force. Sgt. Burford, local Air Force recruiter, said Ron will take four weeks basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, Texat, and from there will be assigned to specialized technical training in the field of mechanics which he chose before enlisting. Ron is a graduate of Speedway High School, Class of 1964.
Mr. and Mrs. Henry Hollinen of Slaton, Texas, celebrated their Golden Wedding March Ist. Mrs. Edward Holinden of 2007 N. Lyndhurst attended and spent two weeks there. She returned last Thursday. • Mr. and Mrs. Roland McClanahan, Mary Carter Paint dealer, whose store is located at 2440 N. Lafayette Road, Indianapolis, Indiana, attended a “One-Day Dealer Convention” sponsored by the company in Columbus, Ohio, during 'which the firm’s 1966 advertising and mechandising program was presented and details of a new, volume discount marketing plan for the company’s products were announced. The day-long session was one of several being conducted this month in centrally located cities from coast to coast, to accomodate 1,000 franchised Mary Carter retail dealers now located in 43 states. I. G. Davis, Jr., Mary Carter president, and other top officials from the firm’s Tampa, Fla., headquarters, conducted variousphases of the meeting.

NEW AFNB WESTSIDE BRANCH American Fletcher National Bank and Trust Company has opened a new baking center on the city’s west side. H. Prentice Browning, AFNB President, announced that the new banking center, located at 7210 Rockville Roam immediately west of the Girls School Road, will be temporarily situated in an existing frame house on the site while a brand new building is being constructed immediately adjacent on the same property. The house, of pre-war vintage, has been remodeled to accommodate three teller windows and office facilities on the gorund floor. The temporary banking center will also feature all types of loans, savings and checking accounts, and a night depository. Added to these features when the new building is opened will be driveup windows, safe deposit boxes, and all the advantages of AFNB Full Service Banking. Manager of the banking center will be William H. Prather. Mr. Prather has been with AFNB since 1950 and is the former manager of the Northwestern Banking Center, 1100 West 30th Street. Mr. Browning did not speculate on a completion date for the new building, but it is expected to be opened within a year. With the opening of the Rockville Road Banking Center, as it will be called, AFNB will provide a total of 39 Full Service Banking Centers throughout Marion County.
