CHILDREN'S MUSEUM “The Colonial Naturalist,” a color film telling of the work of an 18th century botanist enchanted by what he found in Williamsburg, will be shown at the Children’s Museum this Saturday morning, Jan. 29, at 11 o’clock. The film has evoked such praise as “simply beautiful,” but it is also a remarkable educational experience. The central story follows Mark Catesby, and English botanist, who began a visit to his sister in Williamsburg in 1712. The visit was extended for seven years when Catesby determined to write and illustrate what was to become the most significant natural history of America for the next 150 years. Hundreds of birds, mammals and insects are shown. Creatures build their nests; spiders catch their prey; birds feed and protect their young. These intimate glimpses of Tidewater Virginia wildlife are photographed in their natural habitat in color. This free program is for youngsters nine years and older. At the same hour a “museum adventure” awaits the younger child. This is a paper and pencil game to sharpen the observation and enjoyment of the young museum visitor. The Children’s Museum is accepting registration for the world understanding badge classes for cadette Girl Scouts and Camp Fire Girls. Classes will meet from 2 to 4 p.m. eah Saturday in Feb.
