and a third was placed in service December 1. On January 3, two more of the prop-jets replaced DC-3 equipment on flights operating into West Virginia, Youngstown, Ohio, and Pittsburgh, Pa. L. W. Hartman, president of Lake Central, said “Public response to the new planes has been very gratifying, and we are pleased to announce this addition to our fleet. Operating performance of the Nord 262 has been in line with out expectations and beyond our expectations in certain areas. “Passenger traffic results on the Nord 262 for the month of November indicate a traffic stimulation of approximately 30% compared to the results of operating the DC-3 over the balance of the airlines’ route system.”

"May I Suggest a New Year's Resolution" o Traffic safety is a subject most people are not overwhelmingly enthusiastic about. It is a subject most people will say, “Something really needs to be done about the death on our highways,” but to the average driver this is not a personal view. We can read in the newspapers about someone dying on our highways, yet unless we know the particular individual involved, we just shake our heads and go to the comic page. The average drivers do not consider themselves a part of the accident picture. Most people have the attitude that accidents happen to

the other person, they never happen to them, however it is the average driver that is invloved in the majority of the accidents. In rural Marion County this year we have already surpassed last years number of deaths on the roads and highways of our county. In the year of 1964, 49 people died on the rural highways in Marion County, but as of the last day of November of this year 1965, already 52 people have died on these same roads and highways with two of the largest holidays of the year yet in the future. The traffic death toll is going to continue to rise unless each

and every citizen takes it upon his or herself to do all they can to help. We average drivers should educate ourselves and our children to the dangers of driving on these highways. All drivers should ask themselves: 1. How good a driver am I? 2. Do I always obey the law and have respect for the rights of others or do I cheat just a little once in a while, such as by not coming to a complete stop at a stop sign, or speeding a little when in a hurry? 3. Do I get angry when the driver in front of me drives a couple of miles under the speed limit, then risk my life trying to pass this slow driver? I wish every driver could answer these questions with a great big NO, but unfortunately these are some of the mistakes that you and I, the average driver, WILL make. Next time you get into your car ask yourself the above questions, and then make sure you can answer them with a great big NO. when you arrive at your destination safely. If every driver would make a News Years resolution to obey the law, be courteous to their fellow man, and keep their minds on the

business of driving and staying alive maybe we could start this highway death toll on a downward trend. MAY I SUGGEST THIS AS A NEW YEARS RESOLUTION. Prof. Clark’s appointment is the
first in a series of special activities arranged by LU. for 1966 in cooperation with the State Sesquicentennial Com mi s sion, which is headed by I.U. Historian Donald Carmony.
