CANTATA AT SPEEDWAY METHODIST "The Coming Of The King,” a Christmas Cantata by Dudley Buck will be presented by the Oratorio Choir of the Speedway Methodist Church in the second of the series of Advent Candle Light Vespers, Sunday, December 12 at 5 o’clock in the Church Sanctuary. Soloists will include Mrs. John Clark, Mrs. Ben Woodward, Mrs. Howard Robinson, Mrs. Thomas Huston, Mrs. Robert Foltz, Mr. Sam Ashwood and Miss Janet Foltz. Annual Christmas Dance The Krannert Y.M.C.A. announces its annual Christmas Dance to be held December 4, from 9:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. at the YM.C.A., 605 S. High School Rd. AMS Spelling Program Announcement has been made by Howard F. Peters, Chairman of the Education Committee of the Adminstrative Management Society’s Indianapolis Chapter, that through joint sponsorship of the Chapter and the local schools, high school students will soon take part in the AMS spelling program. Last year some 5,000 local students participated in this program. Peters said that students desiring to participate will be provided with a list of 500 frequently misspelled words with instructions to study the entire list in preparation for a test which will be given a week or ten days later. The Chapter and the schools are finalizing plans to get this program underway. It should be noted that the Program is entirely cost-free to both the student and to the school. The examination is to be administered and graded by teachers. Handsome AMS Spelling Proficiency Certificates will be subsequently awarded to those students passing the test. Teachers and the school officials in the community desiring additional information on the program may obtain it from Mr. Howard F. Peters, Blue Cross-Blue Shield, 110 N. GEORGE STALLWOOD George Stallwood, 85, 5123 W. 15th Street, a native of England, died Tuesday, Nov. 23, in St Vincent’s Hospital In 1951, Stallwood retired as a supervisor at Allison Division of General Motors Corp., with which he had been assosiated with 25 years. He was a member of the Speedway Masonic Lodge and Speedway Christian Church. After his retirement he devoted his time to gardening and his flower garden was a neighborhood showplace. Services were held Friday in Conkle Speedway Funeral Home. Survivors include the widow, Minnie Stallwood; a son, Leslie Stallwood, Indianapolis, and a daughter, Mrs. William Anderson,' Speedway, and five grandchildren.
Advent Music At Speedway Christian Church The public is invited to a special service of Advent Music in the Speedway Christian Church, 14th and Winton, on Sunday, Dec. 12 at 7:30 pan. The service will include two choral works. “Rejoice, Beloved Christians” by Diderik Buxtehude will be sung by the Motet Choir and the men of the Chancel Choir, accompanied by a string orchestra and organ. The sopranos and altos of the Chancel Choir will sing Benjamin Britten’s “Ceremony of Carols,” accompanied by Mrs. Bemiece Grubb, harpist from DePauw University. Soloists are Linda Patrick, Doris Hawkins, Ken Jones, Denny Hammer and Crone Knoy in the Buxtehude cantata; Mrs. Betty Gagen, Mrs. Naida Huber and Mrs. Mary Ketchum in the Britten Ceremony. Director is the Rev. Foster Hotchkiss. The church nursery will be open and a reception will follow the service. .

Speedway Homemakers Christmas Luncheon The Speedway Homemakers will meet at the Iron Skillet at 12:00 non on December 9th for the annual Christmas luncheon. Opal Swenson, Lara Jordan and Alice Farley will be the hostesses. Officers for the coming year will be installed by Ernestine Neat; and there will be a $2.00 gift exchange.
Card of Thanks It is with deepest gratitude that we issue thanks to our neighbors and friends for the many, many kindnesses extended to our family at the passing of our beloved husband and father, George Stallwood. PERSONALS Letha Ann Sansone, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Sansone, of 5106 West 11th Stret, Indianapolis, has been selected to attend the Navy’s sixteen-weeks Hospital Corps, Class “A” School, U.S. Naval Training Center, Great Lakes, Illinois. Having completed ten weeks of basic training at the Recruit Training Command (Women), United State Naval Training Center, Bainbridge, Maryland, Hospital Apprentice Sansone was graduated during a military review held on November 19. She is a former graduate of St. Mary Academy High School, and will spend a 14-day leave with her parents before reporting for her schooling at Great Lakes. She was enlisted in the U.S. Navy on August 27, 1965 for three years at the U.S. Navy Recruiting Station, Test Building, Room 800, 54 Monument Circle, Indianapolis.
TOWN BOARD REPORTS By Ray L. Oath, Clerk-Treasurer The Board of Town Trustees for the Civil Town of Speedway held their regular meeting on Monday evening, November 22, 1965 in the Town Hall auditorium. Mr. Cal Morgan, Sanitation Plant Superintendent, advised the Board that Gamrath Industries Inc. has agreed to complete the garbage and trash pick-up contract from the former contractor whose contract was terminated due to unsatisfactory services rendered.
