Inquiries have been received concerning vacation periods during the school year. School will be out October 21-22 for State Teachers Association. There will be no school on Thursday, November 11, for Veterans’ Day. Our band will participate in the Veteran’s Day Parade on that date. Thanksgiving Vacation will be November 25-26. Christmas Vacation will begin on December 22, and pupils will return to class on Monday morning, January 3. Spring vacation will be the week of April 3. Peggy Lewter and Vickie Lott received first division placement in the district twirling contest held at Southport last Saturday. Speedway Cross Country team was runner-up to Decatur Central in the Mid-State Conference Meet held last Saturday. In the AllCounty Meet held recently Speedway placed 3rd among the 12 teams competing. The Sparkplugs defeated the Beech Grove Hornets 41-6 in the Speedway’s stadium last Friday night. In other games played the past week Speedway reserves won over Plainfield 6-0, and the freshmen lost to Fulton by a 14-7 score.

LIBRARY NOTES: The Senior High School Library is open four late afternoons each week for the convenience of students and adults of Speedway. Hours are from 4:00 to 6:30 Monday through Thursday. Mary Hoedebecke, the mother of Agnes Althoff, was remembered in the Mass Tuesday morning at the request of friends. Joe and Phyllis Tofill asked that the Mass on Wednesday be caid for Emma France O’Neal. This morning the Mass was for Robert Shields at the request of Mr and Mrs. John Ross and family. Lawrence Kuczenski will be remembered in the Mass tomorrow request »« his widow. Mary, hi. dsujtos Ruth Kreffel has asked that the Mass on Saturday be said for her late husband, Frank Kreffel.

Mr. Alva Caldwell left by jet on Wednesday, Oct. 6 for a vacation in the Hawaiian Islands. On his return trip he plans on spending a few days in the Los Angeles area visiting a niece and her husband, Mjr. and Mrs. Gray Sowers. Purdue University’s Experimental Theater will open its 1965-66 season at 8 pun. Wednesday, } Oct. 13 with a four-night run of August Strindberg’s play, “Miss Julie.” On Dec. 15 thru 18 “Ghosts” by Henrik Ibsen, will be presented and will be directed by Charles Hayman, 5041 W. 15th Street, Speedway. Hayman, a 1963 Purdue graduate is back for graduate study He played the Stanley Kowalski role in “ A Streetcar Name Desire” in the Purdue Summer Theater this year.

BUTLER HOMECOMING Classes will be dismissed at noon Friday October 15 when Butler University begins its annual homecoming celebration. “Hullabaloo Homecoming: Stay Timed for Victory” is the theme of the two-day event sponsored by Blue Key and Mortar Board, senior honor organizations. Indianapolis Hiking Club Members of the Indianapolis Hiking Club will spend the weekend of October 16 and 17 at Shakamak State Park. Several housekeeping cabins have been reserved. Hiking and other activities are planned.
