Ron Akers, President of the Speedway, Indiana Jaycees, announced today they were backing the nomination of race driver, Jim Hurtubise, as one of the Ten Outstanding Young Men of the Nation. The Speedway Jaycees along with several prominent racing personnel and other outstanding men of the nation have forwarded their nominations of Hurtubise to the United States Jaycee Headquarters in Tulsa, Okla. fighting spirit, terrific physical condition and the doctors skills, he pulled through but was told he would have little use of his hands. Jim startled the doctor by saying he was returning to racing after being released from the hospital. And return he did, he worked all winter conditioning those badly scarred hands and ran the first USAC National Championship race at Phoenix early last spring.
