SCHOOL NEWS (Continued from Page 1) -will be continued this year. Under this system all books, pencils, paper, and other necessary materials are furnished for children in grades kindergarten through six. Books and paper are supplied in grades seven through twelve. In grades 1-8 an average of about twenty-five dollars’ worth of books, paper, and other materials are furnished each pupil during the school year. In high school, pupils are charged one-fourth of the price of a textbook and the -full price of workbooks and other consumable materials.
Semester books and paper fees in grades K-8 will be Kindergarten, $1.00; Grades 1-6, $4.75; Grades 7-8, $5.50, except special cases noted in schedule sheets. The entire year’s fees, which are double the semester fees, may be paid at the beginning of the year. In fact, it is preferable, since practically all books are purchased at the beginning of the year. As mentioned above high school book fees will vary with the classes taken. Birth certificates will be 'required of all kindergarten pupils and all first grade pupils who did not attend Speedway Schools last year. To be eligible for kindergarten a child must be five years old by October 1. To be eligible for the first grade a child must be six years old by Sept. 9. Junior-Senior High School High school students, grades 912, will report at 8:10. Junior high schol pupils, grades 7-8, will report to home rooms in the junior high building as designated in the schedule which they have picked up or which is available at the junior high school office, 5151 West 14th Street.
Carl G. Fisher School (No. 1) Boys and girls will enroll at the Carl G. Fisher Elementary School No. 1, 5151 West 14th Street, on September 7, as follows: Kindergarten students with last names beginning with A through D should enroll between 8:15 and 9:15 a.m. Those with last names beginning with E through N should enroll between 9:15 and 10:15 a.m. Those with last names beginnig with P through Z should enroll between 10:15 and 11:15 a.m. Kindergarten registration will be in Room A with Mrs. Breitweiser. First grade boys and girls will enroll in Room F with Mrs. Kress. Second grade boys and girls will enroll in Room 8 with Mrs. Hoover. Third grade boys and girls will enroll in Room 9 with Miss Yoho. Barkman said the total cost will exceed $275,000 and installation work will continue for about four months. In the downtown Bell building, 14 switchboard positions will be added for operators handling long distance calls and providing assitance to telephone users who dial “O” and equipment will be installed to improve transmission on private line circuits.
