NOTICE TO RESIDENTS OF SPEEDWAY We are receiving so many complaints about people burning trash causing smoke and bits of paper blowing in their yards that we are again appealing to you to please use caution in burning your trash and please think of your neighbors and also think how you would feel if your neighbor burned trash and the smoke and residue bothered you. We also notice many empty lots that have grown up in weeds which need to be cut. We ask the owners of these lots to please see that the weeds are cut immediately. Your cooperation will greatly be appreciated. We want to keep “Our Town” the best place to live in but we need your cooperation to keep it that way. Will you please help and cooperate. Thank you. Ray L Oeth, Clerk-Treasurer
NOTICE TO RESIDENTS OF SPEEDWAY Due to so many complaints regarding dogs and cats running loose in our Town the following excerpts are taken from TOWN ORDINANCE No. 156 adopted by the Town Board on March 12, 1951. SECTION 1: The existence of dogs and cats running without restraint within the Town of Speedway is hereby found and determined to be a public nuisance and a menace to the health and welfare of the inhabitants of the Town of Speedway. SECTION 2: The owners of dogs and cats are hereby ordered and required to keep said animals confined until such time as the Board of Trustees of the Town repeals this ordinance. The Town Marshal and his deputies are ordered and directed to seize any and all dogs and cats found running loose within the corporate limits of the Town and are ordered to confine the same for a period, of five days. This Ordinance as pertaining to cats is still in effect. There is a new Ordinance on dogs passed recently and which has been published several times. This notice is especially directed to owners of cats as we are having too many complaints about cats at this time. Ray L Oeth, Clerk-Treasurer
BIOCK THOSE FUMES Looking around for something to feel optimistic about? Then the state of air pollution control—or its future, anyway—invites your gaze. Amid the foggy foggy dew of debate on this often murky matter, a ray of light has shown through. It isn’t bright or warming enough to clear up the whole atmosphere. But it does illuminate the possible shape of things to come. It happened during recent hearings on a phase of the air pollution problem that has brothered a lot of people: the role that auto exhaust fumes are said to play in the messing up our national ozone. The car makers, while doubting that exhaust fumes are at all responsible, allowed that something could be done about the problem. As the New York Times put it, “the industry, for the first time, offered a timetable . . . This underscores the fact that the auto makers have resigned themselves to the idea that exhaust controls are inevitable.” The car industry is receptive to the idea of equipping all new cars with controls for exhaust fumes and crankcase containments, such as are already required by the State of California beginning with 1966 models. All the car makers want is a little time say a couple of years. Meanwhile, there are still a few other phases of the problem to be worked on like industrial fuel wastes, trash burning, home furnaces, tobacco smoke ... Want to take a hand? The National Tuberculosis Association has a free leaflet called, “Air Pollution, The Facts,” which tells you what you can do. Ask your local Christmas Seal Association for a copy.
Christian Marriage Seminar A financial adviser, physician, marriage counselor and minister form the panel for the Christian Marriage Seminar at the Interchurch Center on Sunday, July 11, from 2:00 to 5:30 p.m. Open to engaged couples or newlyweds, the session presents helpful information on self-under-standing, ways of expressing love, handling family differences and relationship with in-laws. It is designed to add to, not take the place of private talks with participants’ own minister, physician or counselor. Pre-registration may be made by calling the Church Federation of Greater Indianapolis, WA. 6-5371, or register at the session on July 11. The fee is $3.00 per couple.
