SOMETHING FOR THE ENTIRE FAMILY This is what executive secretary Don Lohmann of Krannert Memorial YMCA is tuning the Paul Burkley family of 2102 Gerrard Drive as he explains the many programs available to Krannert members. Lohmann said that with the completion of the new $150,000 social center in Sept., Krannert will offer the most comprehensive all-year-around facility and program schedule available to westside residents.
Speedway “C” League Baseball Organisation and practice for Junior High Boys 13 and 14 (not 15 before August 1,1965). NOTE: High School Boys will not be able to practice until after May 26, however, you may come out to sign up if you wish to play ball this summer. PARKNEWS The Speedway Park Summer recreation program will begin on June 14/and run through July 30 this year. The parks, both Leonard and Meadowood are in fine condition due to the efforts of Mr. William Mattingly and his crew of workers who have been on the job since April 1. The supervision program this summer will consist of Jim Crumley,, Miss Julia Allen, Miss Peg Hartzell and Ronnie Ray. Mrs. Hartzell replaces Miss Middaught who will be teaching summer school. Miss Middaugh will be sorely missed after her many (Continued on Page 5)
THE TOWN BOARD REPORTS The Board of Town Trustees for the Civil Town of Speedway held their regular meeting on Monday evening, May 10, in the Town Hall Auditorium. The request for removal of some of the stop signs in the Meadowood Area was denied by the Board at this meeting. The residents in the area were asked to make their wishes known on this request by written letters to the Town Board. Seventy-four letters were received and over 83% asked that the stop signs remain as they are now erected. The Board wishes again to thank all who wrote letters expressing their feelings. This is a good example of how Town government operates in “Our Town.” Marshal Stonebraker presented an application for a new police officer at this meeting. Upon his recommendation Mr. David W. Shaw, 1709 Winton Avenue, Speedway has been employed to replace Mr. Bill Dodson who resigned to accept employment in private industry. The Indiana State Highway Commission has asked the Town to absorb the cost of the Street Lights now located at the intersection of No. 136 and Georgecontinued on Page 5)

Key to the City Civic Newcomers Club The May meeting of the Westside area club of the Key To The City Civic Newcomers Club will meet at 7:00, May 20th, at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, for their regular monthly meeting. Husband will join their wives for a covered dish supper. Special guests for the evening will be Miss Kay Rhinehardt and Mr. Bill Cheesebourg. Miss Rhinehardt of The American Red Cross, will show two films. One film on swimming and the other on resuscitation. Mr. Cheesebourg, veteran 500 race driver, will show a film from The Champion Spark Plug Company, “Champion Highway Safety Program.”

JAYCEES WIN AWARDS AT STATE CONVENTION Speedway Jaycees won honors at their arnntM-eenvenHonheH for Evansville, this past weekend, May 13th thru 16th. In their population division they coppfed a first in International Relations, and a second in Chapter Development. Individual honors went to Ronald Akers for Outstanding State Director, and to Randy Fox for being State SPOKE of the Year. The Jaycee Jaynes won first place in their population division for their contribution to the Jaycees and their efforts throughout the year. Speedway Town Cleric Treasurer Appointed At the State convention of Clerk and Clerk-Treasurers League of Indiana, Mr. Ray L. Oeth, Town Clerk-Treasurer was appointed to the Board of Directors for the ensuing year. This is quite an honor to Mr. Oeth himself to be selected and also to Speedway to have a member on the Board of Directors. Mr. Oeth will represent Towns as a director.

PACK 66 TONIGHT’S THE NIGHT! The Pinewood Derby at the Junior High School Gym, 5151 W. 14th. Weigh-in will begin at 6:30 so don’t be late. The race will be run as soon as the cars are offically entered. After the race is over, the regular pack meeting will be held. Several boys have earned awards which will be presented tonight. Receiving their Wolf Badges are Lee Faulkner, David McCauley. Doug Smith, Greg Zimmeqgaga, Randy Roberts, Michael Force, Tim Lockhart and Kurt Brauer. Bear Badges will be awarded to Jay Hurt, Mike Estridge, Carl Brauer, Mickey Trittipo, and Rusty Nelson. Receviing Lion Badges are David Thompson and Pat Ramsey. Speedway High School Alumni Queen Contest The Alumni Association is sponsoring a queen contest for their annual dance. The queen will be selected by votes from the people of Speedway. She must be a graduate of Speedway High School. The girl receiving the most votes wiU be crowned queen. Every vote is an entry. The girl does not have to enter herself. She will be judged by votes only. Votees will be cast on ballots such as the one below and deposited in the designated box at Beck’s Drug Store at 16th and Lyndhurst. A ballot will be published in every Speedway Flyer edition until June sth.
